In addition to general assistance, the role may occasionally require answering emergency calls, performing functions required by the Municipal Court, and assisting at the Police public desk or records section.

Job Requirements

  • Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • At least one year of responsible experience involving public contact
  • Knowledge of basic laws
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person and on the phone
  • Ability to accurately enter and maintain records in a computer system
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Ability to pass background check and receive security clearance

Job Qualifications

  • Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional one year responsible experience involving public contact
  • Knowledge of various basic laws
  • Ability to speak clearly
  • Ability to write clearly, concisely and legibly
  • Ability to interview callers or visitors to obtain necessary information
  • Ability to learn police department procedures
  • Ability to read and understand various laws
  • Ability to apply basic laws to actual situations
  • Ability to adapt to various situations including dealing and communicating with people under stress
  • Ability to process information from several sources and work under stress
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment including computers
  • Ability to pass an extensive background investigation to receive security clearance
  • Ability to wear a distinctive uniform identifying you as a Police department employee
  • Ability to work flexible hours

Job Duties

  • Answer non-emergency telephone lines and assist visitors
  • May answer emergency calls as required
  • Accurately enter various types of information into the department's computer system
  • Keep records of activities and prepare reports concerning crimes, complaints, accidents, and investigations
  • Determine the nature of the request and take appropriate action
  • Refer request for service to appropriate division or agency as necessary
  • Interview callers or visitors to obtain necessary information
