Job Description
The Living Desert is a renowned conservation and education facility dedicated to raising awareness about the unique wildlife and ecosystems of desert regions. Situated in a stunning desert landscape, it serves as both a sanctuary for endangered species and a vibrant community hub where visitors of all ages can connect with nature. The Living Desert offers an array of exhibits, interactive programs, and events designed to inspire curiosity and foster a deeper appreciation for the natural world. As a mission-driven organization, it emphasizes wildlife conservation, environmental education, and community engagement through its dedicated team and collaborative partnerships.
The role of Public Event Coordinator at The Living Desert is an exciting and impactful position that plays a vital role in creating memorable, meaningful experiences for visitors. This role is ideal for an energetic and highly organized professional who is passionate about event planning and community connection. The Public Event Coordinator is responsible for supporting the planning and execution of a wide range of events including public celebrations, promotional launches, community gatherings, and mission-driven programs that highlight conservation efforts. These events are designed not only to entertain but also to educate and inspire the public about wildlife preservation and environmental stewardship.
The Public Event Coordinator will manage various event logistics such as creating detailed timelines, developing maps and signage plans, coordinating work orders, and ensuring smooth setup and breakdown processes. Communication is a key component of this role, requiring coordination across multiple internal departments and external stakeholders including vendors, performers, sponsors, volunteers, and community partners. Through these collaborations, the coordinator helps deliver seamless event experiences that are welcoming, safe, and inclusive for all guests.
This position also involves managing budgets, tracking expenses, handling purchase requests, and maintaining accurate records to ensure the financial aspects of events are well controlled. A unique aspect of the role is the responsibility to incorporate sustainability and conservation principles into event planning, supporting The Living Desert's mission by reducing environmental impact and promoting eco-friendly practices.
Candidates who thrive in this role will be those who are detail-oriented, solution-driven, and enthusiastic about creating enriching experiences behind the scenes and onsite. Flexibility is essential, as the role requires working varied schedules including evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on event needs. Physical demands may include occasional driving, lifting items up to 50 pounds, and working in outdoor desert conditions. The Public Event Coordinator position offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute to a respected organization dedicated to conservation, education, and community enrichment while developing valuable skills in event management within a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
