The role of Public Area Attendant at Starwood Hotels is integral to maintaining the cleanliness and aesthetic appeal of the hotel’s communal spaces. This position is essential in providing a welcoming environment for guests and ensuring the public areas reflect the high standards of the brand. The Public Area Attendant works as a key member of the Housekeeping service team, responsible primarily for cleaning and sanitizing public spaces including lobbies, hallways, elevators, stairwells, restrooms, and other high-traffic areas within the hotel. Maintaining these areas requires thorough attention to detail and a genuine passion for cleanliness, as well as the ability to perform a variety of physical tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting to ensure an attractive environment.

This role also includes responsibilities beyond cleaning, such as replenishing restroom supplies, promptly addressing spills or debris, and maintaining windows, doors, and furniture to create a pristine and inviting atmosphere for all guests. Public Area Attendants are expected to greet guests warmly, respond to their needs with professionalism and courtesy, and contribute to a positive guest experience by embodying the 1 Hotels Vision, Mission, and Compass. The job involves working collaboratively with colleagues, following safety and security policies, and maintaining all cleaning equipment in an organized and ready state.

Candidates for this position should be equipped with excellent time management skills, the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, and the willingness to handle various physical demands including lifting, bending, and pushing cleaning carts. Effective communication skills and the ability to engage with a diverse range of guests and team members are also crucial. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • previous experience in hospitality or cleaning services preferred
  • good physical stamina and ability to perform physical tasks required
  • excellent communication skills in English
  • ability to work flexible hours including holidays and weekends

  • ability to stand walk and perform repetitive motions for long periods

Job Qualifications

  • Previous related guest service experience dealing directly with the public and acquired general knowledge of basic customer service skills
  • passion for cleanliness and attention to detail
  • ability to communicate and comprehend English language sufficient to understand information such as labels and instructions and answer basic guest requests and effectively communicate both verbally and written with all levels of guests and team members
  • ability to learn and work with technology including devices such as computers iPods and iPads
  • excellent time management skills and can work in a fast-paced environment

  • should possess and display high levels of energy since the job demands cleaning a varying number of rooms a day depending on business needs
  • ability to push and pull a loaded housekeeping cart and other work-related equipment over sloping and uneven surfaces
  • reach overhead and below the knees including bending twisting pulling and stooping
  • ability to stand sit kneel or walk for an extended period across an entire work shift
  • grasp turn and manipulate objects of varying size and weight requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination

Job Duties

  • Clean and sanitize all public areas including lobbies hallways elevators stairwells restrooms and other high-traffic spaces within the hotel
  • sweep mop vacuum and dust all surfaces to maintain a clean and orderly environment for guests
  • ensure that public restrooms are stocked with essential supplies and maintained in a clean sanitary condition throughout the day
  • spot clean or address spills dirt or debris immediately to maintain a pristine environment
  • clean and maintain windows doors and furniture in public spaces to ensure a welcoming atmosphere
  • greet welcome and acknowledge all guests by name and respond to their requests in a courteous and professional manner
  • follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures and report any maintenance problems safety hazards accidents or injuries
