The role available is a Front End Associate position at Food Lion located in Virginia Beach, VA. This role is primarily customer-facing and requires ensuring a seamless, fast, and friendly checkout experience for customers. The Front End Associate is responsible for upholding Food Lion's customer service standards by promptly engaging with customers, managing transactions accurately, and assisting with bagging groceries appropriately. Additionally, associates in this role support the Customer Service Manager and Assistant Customer Service Manager in daily operational standards set forth in the Front End Standard Practice Manual. Key responsibilities include unloading customers' groceries, scanning and handling payments, maintaining cash control, and observing proper procedures for refunds and error correction. Attention to detail is critical, such as checking cart bottoms for forgotten items and ensuring compliance with correct bagging techniques. The associate must wear the Food Lion uniform with the name badge and maintain a neat appearance to reflect the company's professional image.
Physically, this role involves standing for long periods, handling repetitive motions, lifting and moving grocery items of various weights, and managing a range of equipment including cash registers, scanners, and lottery machines where applicable. The associate must ensure the front-end area and workstations are clean and well-presented, retrieve shopping carts, and promptly report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs. Familiarity with technology is required to complete computer-based training programs and manage tasks such as refilling the MVP savings center kiosk.

Job Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred
- Effective communication and customer service skills

Job Duties
- Smile and provide prompt, accurate and friendly service while engaging customers to create a positive shopping experience
- Greet each customer and use his or her name whenever possible
- Unload customers' groceries from cart to belt and group cold items together for ease of bagging
- Check the bottom of every cart and under all baby seats for items before completing an order
- Follow correct bagging procedures for the correct use of bags by type
- Scan customers' orders and handle payment transactions according to standard practices
- Avoid personal conversations with associates when customers are present
- Follow procedures in handling cash, checks, coupons, gift cards, partner cards, food stamps and WIC vouchers
- Follow procedures for refunds and error correction
- Maintain accurate cash control
- Perform overrides as needed
- Identify customers needing assistance and offer to take their orders to their cars
- Maintain alertness and call for assistance when needed
- Check prices quickly and accurately
- Be courteous and helpful to other associates
- Wear the Food Lion uniform with apron and name badge while on duty
- Retrieve shopping carts from the parking lot and cart corrals using standard practice
- Ensure workstations and front end area are neat and clean
- Report any register malfunctions to management
- Fill and maintain the MVP savings center kiosk
- Adhere to all company guidelines, policies and standard practices
- Observe and correct unsafe conditions
- Notify QA of cleaning or maintenance issues
- Successfully complete computer-based training courses
- Perform all other duties as assigned
