Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • one year of experience as a kitchen cook or line cook or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • food handler's permit with Yuma County Health Department Certificate required within one week of hire
  • valid U.S. state driver's license
  • ability to frequently stand, lift, carry and move up to 50 pounds of food, materials and equipment
  • must comply with Arizona Department of Health restaurant regulations, County health ordinances and city policies and procedures

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • minimum one year of experience as a kitchen cook or line cook or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • knowledge of city policies and procedures
  • knowledge of proper safety and sanitation practices and methods used in food preparation and storage
  • knowledge of principles of inventory control for commercial kitchen food and supplies
  • skill in following and maintaining safety standards
  • skill in food preparation, cleaning and sanitation techniques and practices
  • skill in following verbal and written instructions and procedures
  • bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • culinary education preferred

Job Duties

  • Assists in preparing a variety of food items for cooking in broilers, ovens, grills, fryers and other kitchen equipment
  • applies consistent standard portion sizes and cooking methods by battering, breading, seasoning and/or marinating
  • assists in managing inventory of food and supplies and rotates all products
  • assures adequate stocks are available and sufficient levels of food products are at line stations during service period
  • maintains kitchen preparation areas, tools and equipment according to health regulations and city policies
  • recognizes, avoids and reports unsafe conditions, accidents and injuries
  • supports courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors and city staff
  • promotes city goals, vision and values and complies with all city policies and procedures
  • maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and city information
  • performs other duties as assigned
