Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading North American retailer specializing in arts and crafts supplies, committed to fueling creativity and celebration. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, as well as online. Known as the best place for all things creative, Michaels offers a vast range of products and services designed to inspire artists, crafters, and hobbyists of all ages. They also own Artistree, a manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise, further expanding their footprint in the creative arts industry. At Michaels, both full-time and part-time team members enjoy a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, generous employee discounts, and more, reflecting the company’s dedication to the wellbeing and professional growth of its employees.

The role of Event Coordinator at the Michaels store located in Ral-Morrisville, NC, is integral to delivering an engaging, stress-free, and memorable experience for customers. This position involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating various in-store events, including children’s birthday parties and other craft classes, to enhance the overall guest experience. The Event Coordinator will engage clients ranging in age from young children to seniors, fostering a fun and creative environment. Responsibilities include demonstrating craft projects, face painting, handling party add-ons such as goody bags and balloons according to company standards, and managing communication between clients and store team members. Administrative duties such as responding to emails, phone calls, and paperwork are also required. The role demands adaptability, with the need to adjust events based on client feedback and to prepare backup or emergency plans to ensure event success and client satisfaction.

Additionally, the Event Coordinator supports the retail side of Michaels by assisting customers in finding and purchasing products, providing fast and friendly checkout services, and promoting the store’s rewards program and private label credit cards. They also facilitate omni-channel processes like Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS), participate in merchandising tasks including truck unloads and stocking, and maintain store cleanliness and recovery standards. Safety and compliance with standard operating procedures are strictly followed, while promoting a positive, respectful atmosphere for both customers and team members. The role also involves being cross-trained in custom framing sales and production to provide additional support where needed. This position requires a high level of energy, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to handle job-related stress effectively while maintaining a professional demeanor.

Physically, the position requires standing for extended periods, moving throughout the store, bending, lifting, carrying, reaching, and occasionally using ladders to access high shelves. The store environment is public-facing with climate-controlled areas, with some stock rooms and outdoor tasks like unloading trucks and retrieving shopping carts. Work hours may include nights, weekends, and early mornings. Michaels is committed to equal opportunity employment and provides reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities to ensure full participation in the job and interview process.

This Event Coordinator opportunity is ideal for individuals who are enthusiastic about creativity, enjoy working with people of all ages especially children, and thrive in a dynamic retail event setting. It is a chance to be part of a company that values innovation, inclusion, and the joy of creating, while offering a comprehensive benefits package and a supportive work environment.
