Job Description

Michaels is a leading specialty retailer of arts and crafts supplies in North America, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels is the go-to destination for creative and craft-related needs, offering a wide array of products, classes, and custom framing services to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise, further strengthening its position as a comprehensive arts and crafts resource. Michaels is committed to fostering an inclusive environment for its employees and customers, providing various benefits, development opportunities, and a supportive workplace culture. The retail environment is dynamic and customer-focused, aiming to inspire and engage guests through hands-on creativity and exceptional service.

This role at the LA-BREA, CA store is designed for an energetic, creative individual who will plan, coordinate, and facilitate engaging events within the store, including children’s birthday parties and other craft classes or activities. As an Event Coordinator at Michaels, you will create a fun and stress-free environment by managing multiple events simultaneously and ensuring they meet company standards. Your responsibilities will include not only event planning and execution but also providing excellent customer service to shoppers, helping them find products efficiently, and promoting the benefits of Michaels’ Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards. You will play a key operational role by assisting with receiving merchandise, stocking, maintaining store recovery standards, and supporting various store programs including shrink and safety initiatives.

To succeed in this position, you should be comfortable interacting with guests of all ages—from children to seniors—with an ability to demonstrate craft projects, perform face painting, and manage party add-ons like goody bags and balloons with reliability and creativity. Administrative tasks such as managing event communications, answering emails, and filing paperwork are essential elements of the role. Flexibility is important, as you'll adjust plans based on customer feedback and develop backup plans to ensure event successes. Additionally, maintaining cleanliness and safety standards before, during, and after events is critical to providing an enjoyable and safe experience for all attendees.

This position offers a total base pay range of $16.90 to $19.70 per hour, with potential eligibility for overtime compensation depending on state and local laws. The work environment is a retail store setting with both climate-controlled public areas and stock rooms that may not be climate controlled; some outdoor activities may be required as well. You should be able to stand for extended periods, perform physical tasks such as lifting and climbing ladders, and actively engage in store maintenance tasks. Michaels values positive, respectful interactions and expects team members to project a professional image while supporting the company’s vision and values.

Michaels provides a comprehensive benefits package tailored to support team members and their families. Depending on eligibility and position, benefits include a 401(k) plan with employer matching, medical, dental, and vision coverage, telemedicine, flexible spending accounts, tuition assistance, commuter benefits, adoption assistance, employee discounts, and more. Michaels is an Equal Opportunity Employer and committed to providing reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities.

Joining Michaels means becoming part of a passionate team that fuels creativity and shares a commitment to delivering inspiring experiences for customers and remarkable care for team members. The Event Coordinator role is ideal for someone who loves working with children and families, thrives in a customer-facing retail environment, and enjoys orchestrating memorable events and meaningful experiences within the community.
