Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is the leading destination for all things creative and celebratory in North America, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, with an extensive presence online at Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has grown into a trusted retailer known for offering a wide array of arts and crafts supplies, framing, and creative workshops. Michaels is dedicated to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration among customers of all ages, providing a welcoming environment where people can explore their passions and bring their artistic visions to life. They also own Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise, further strengthening their position in the arts and crafts market.

This particular role is located in a Michaels store in Columbus-Grove City, Ohio, where the successful candidate will serve as an Event Coordinator and Customer Experience team member. This is a part-time position with a competitive hourly wage ranging from $11.00 to $13.00, designed for individuals passionate about delivering exceptional customer experiences in a creative retail environment.

As an Event Coordinator, the individual will plan, coordinate, and facilitate multiple in-store events, including children’s birthday parties and various craft classes. The primary objective is to create a fun, engaging, and stress-free environment for guests ranging in age from young children to seniors. The role involves instructing participants in craft projects, performing activities like face painting, and managing party add-ons including goody bags and balloons per company standards. It also requires strong administrative skills for communicating with clients and team members, handling emails, phone inquiries, and paperwork. Adapting plans based on client feedback and preparing backup plans for unforeseen circumstances are essential to ensuring client satisfaction.

Beyond event coordination, the role encompasses providing outstanding customer service by assisting shoppers in locating products and offering creative solutions, delivering fast and friendly checkout experiences, and promoting Michaels’ Rewards program as well as Private Label Credit Card enrollments. The role also involves executing omnichannel processes such as Buy Online Pickup in Store and Ship From Store to support modern retail operations.

Operationally, the coordinator will assist with truck unloading, stocking, maintaining merchandise presentation, and ensuring adherence to company standards in store recovery and inventory management. Training includes Custom Framing selling and production responsibilities, contributing to a comprehensive retail experience.

The work environment is a public retail setting that is climate controlled with some exceptions, such as stockrooms and outdoor areas associated with retrieving carts or unloading trucks. Physical demands include standing for long periods, moving around the store, bending, lifting, reaching, and occasionally climbing ladders to access high shelves. Michaels is committed to providing reasonable accommodations as required to ensure all team members can perform their roles effectively.

Michaels places a strong emphasis on team member wellbeing by offering a robust benefits package to both full-time and part-time employees. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts, supporting employees’ physical, financial, and professional growth. Michaels is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to full inclusion, offering accommodations for individuals with disabilities to promote an inclusive workplace.

In summary, this role at Michaels offers a vibrant and rewarding opportunity for individuals with a passion for creativity, event management, and customer service in a dynamic retail environment. It is ideal for those energetic and enthusiastic professionals who thrive interacting with customers of all ages, enjoy hands-on event coordination, and want to be part of a growing, creative company dedicated to inspiring joy and creativity.
