Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading arts and crafts retailer headquartered in Irving, Texas. Since its founding in 1973, Michaels has grown into North America's premier destination for creativity and celebration, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, as well as maintaining a robust online presence through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer and specialty provider of custom framing merchandise, further enhancing its offerings to customers. Michaels is dedicated to fostering creativity and providing customers with a comprehensive range of quality products and innovative crafting solutions. The company is committed to diversity and inclusion, ensuring accessibility and equal opportunity for all employees and customers alike. Michaels' team-oriented culture emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and positive customer engagement, supporting employees with a range of benefits such as health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts.

The Event Coordinator role at Michaels in Huntsville-Madison, Alabama, plays a pivotal part in delivering an exceptional in-store experience by planning and facilitating engaging events, including children’s birthday parties and craft classes. This position is designed for an organized, enthusiastic individual who thrives in a dynamic retail environment and has a passion for creating memorable experiences for guests of all ages. As an Event Coordinator, you will be responsible for ensuring every event runs smoothly, maintaining the high standards of customer service, and contributing to overall store operations.

Your duties will include planning multiple events simultaneously, managing client communications, and adjusting plans based on feedback. You will engage participants by instructing and demonstrating craft projects, performing activities such as face painting, and handling event add-ons like goody bags and balloons. Beyond event management, you will support the customer shopping experience by assisting customers in product selection, operating checkout registers efficiently, enrolling customers in rewards programs, and educating them about store surveys. Additionally, operational tasks such as truck unloading, merchandise stocking, maintaining store recovery standards, and participating in safety and shrink programs are part of your responsibilities. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to remain positive even in challenging situations are essential in this role.

This position requires physical capability to perform tasks such as standing for extended periods, lifting heavy boxes, and operating ladders safely. Working hours may include evenings, weekends, and early mornings, all within a climate-controlled retail environment with occasional outdoor duties. Michaels is committed to compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements and provides reasonable accommodations to individuals who require them to perform job functions.

Joining Michaels means becoming part of a company that values creativity, customer engagement, and community. The Event Coordinator position offers a unique opportunity to combine organizational skills, passion for crafts, and customer service excellence to enhance the Michaels brand and customer loyalty. This full-time or part-time role promises a vibrant workplace culture, ample learning opportunities, and a rewarding career path within a company dedicated to fostering creativity and celebration for all.
