Job Description
Michaels, a leading arts and crafts retail chain in North America, is renowned for its extensive range of creative products and its commitment to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration. With over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, Michaels offers a vibrant retail environment catering to a diverse community of craft lovers, hobbyists, and celebration planners. Established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has grown to become the premier destination for crafting supplies, custom framing, and creative events. The company also owns Artistree, a notable manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise. As a brand that values innovation, inclusivity, and customer engagement, Michaels fosters a supportive workplace culture that encourages team members to express their creativity and deliver memorable experiences to customers. Michaels provides a part-time employment opportunity at its Vero Beach, Florida location, where team members play a critical role in both customer service and event coordination within the store. This position offers a competitive environment where creativity, enthusiasm, and organizational skills are highly valued, and opportunities to learn and grow within the retail and events space exist.
The role at this Michaels store revolves around planning, coordinating, and facilitating various events, including children’s birthday parties and craft classes, creating an engaging, fun, and stress-free experience for guests. Event coordination responsibilities require managing multiple events simultaneously, interacting with clients of all ages from toddlers to elders, and ensuring high-quality, entertaining activities that foster creativity and enjoyment. This role demands an energetic and enthusiastic personality with excellent interpersonal skills, as the team member will demonstrate and instruct participants on craft projects, manage party add-ons such as goody bags and balloons, communicate effectively with clients and the store team, and handle associated administrative duties like answering emails and making phone calls. Adaptability is key in this position, as plans may need adjustment based on client feedback or unforeseen circumstances, and implementing backup plans is part of the job to ensure client satisfaction and successful event execution.
In addition to event coordination, the team member contributes significantly to the overall customer experience by assisting customers in locating products, providing helpful solutions, and ensuring a fast and friendly checkout experience. This includes engaging customers on the benefits of the store’s rewards program and private label credit cards, participating in omni-channel retail processes such as Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS), and supporting daily operational tasks including truck unloading, merchandising, stock recovery, and maintaining store cleanliness and safety standards. The role involves cross-training in custom framing sales and production to provide diversified customer service and to support store operations.
Michaels places a strong emphasis on compliance with company policies and procedures, safety and shrink programs, and fostering a respectful and positive work environment for team members and customers alike. The physical demands of the job include standing for extended periods, moving around the store, bending, lifting, carrying, and using ladders for accessing high shelves or unloading boxes. Flexibility in working nights, weekends, and early mornings is expected. Michaels is committed to providing reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities to ensure full participation and access to all aspects of the job.
The position is part-time and offers access to a comprehensive benefits package including a 401(k) with employer match, employee assistance programs, health, dental, and vision coverage, telemedicine services, flexible spending accounts, commuter benefits, tuition assistance, adoption assistance, and voluntary insurance options. Team members also enjoy everyday perks such as employee discounts and access to partner discount programs. Michaels promotes equal employment opportunity and a supportive, inclusive workplace culture that values diversity and innovation. Joining Michaels means becoming part of a dynamic team dedicated to creativity, customer engagement, and community involvement in a welcoming retail environment.
