This job opening is for a Marketing and Outreach Coordinator within the Parks and Recreation Department. This role is vital for promoting Summerville's parks and recreational programs, events, and activities. The position involves independent work to set up and maintain information tables at community outreach events such as Third Thursdays, Farmers Markets, and career fairs. The coordinator will assist in securing and maintaining sponsors to support Parks and Recreation events and programs, ensuring financial sustainability and community involvement.
The Marketing and Outreach Coordinator is responsible for distributing flyers and posters to various public spaces to increase awareness and participation in the Town’s recreational offerings. The role includes supporting the operation of Parks and Recreation events, collaborating with staff, volunteers, vendors, business owners, and the public. Strong customer service skills and professionalism are essential for this position, as the coordinator represents the Town and facilitates positive communication with diverse groups.
This full-time position requires a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends, and special event hours to meet the demands of community programming. Candidates should have outstanding customer service, conflict resolution skills, and the ability to multitask and troubleshoot effectively under pressure. Proficiency in administrative tasks, computer software, and handling telephone communications is expected.
The ideal candidate will bring knowledge of event planning, coordination, logistics, and an understanding of the applicable laws and regulations governing municipal Parks and Recreation operations. Effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary to liaise with event organizers, vendors, staff, and attendees. The ability to maintain cooperative relationships with coworkers and the public, react calmly in emergency situations, and uphold integrity in all interactions are critical competencies.
Physical demands include the ability to perform moderately strenuous activities such as walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting objects up to 50 pounds when supporting event setup and outreach tasks. Job Duties
- Set up and maintain information tables at third-party outreach events such as Third Thursdays and Farmers Markets
- Assist with maintaining current sponsorships and securing new sponsors for Parks and Recreation events and programming
- Deliver flyers and posters promoting Parks and Recreation events and programs to public spaces
- Assist with operating Parks and Recreation events as needed
- Interact and communicate with Parks and Recreation staff, volunteers, vendors, business owners, and the public
- Provide excellent customer service while maintaining a professional demeanor
- Perform other related duties as required
