Job Description

Legends Global is a leading company specializing in the private management of public assembly facilities, known for delivering exceptional event experiences and operational excellence. One of their noted managed venues is the El Paso Convention & Performing Arts Center, a premier location for hosting a wide array of local, regional, and national events including conventions, concerts, cultural performances, and catered gatherings. This venue plays a vital role in the community, offering versatile spaces that accommodate everything from small meetings to large-scale productions. As a private entity operating this public facility, Legends Global emphasizes high standards in service, safety, and hospitality, making it a respected employer within the El Paso area and beyond.

The company currently has an immediate vacancy for a Part-Time Cook at the El Paso Convention & Performing Arts Center located in Destination El Paso. This role fits within the hospitality and event management sector, focusing on food preparation and kitchen operations connected to scheduled events at the venue. It is a part-time position, offering a competitive salary reflective of the responsibilities and experience required. The role involves performing a variety of skilled and unskilled kitchen tasks, all aimed at ensuring timely, high-quality food service suited for the diverse clientele and events hosted. This position offers an opportunity for culinary enthusiasts to contribute to a dynamic environment where flexibility, attention to detail, and teamwork are crucial.

As a Part-Time Cook, the successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and handling food items in accordance with approved recipes and production standards. Responsibilities include working on concession stands and catered events, which require the ability to manage food items efficiently and maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization within the kitchen and storage areas. The cook must ensure all food handling procedures comply with state health codes and sanitation standards, emphasizing safety and hygiene. Familiarity with major kitchen equipment and small wares is necessary, along with the capability to label and date food items appropriately for storage. This role expects candidates to be adept at minimizing waste, managing kitchen inventory, and contributing to the plating and final assembly of hot and cold food items for service.

The ideal candidate will bring considerable knowledge of food and beverage practices and must have the ability to follow both oral and written instructions accurately. This is essential given the fast-paced and variable nature of event catering. Flexibility to adapt to changing situations, strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks, and the ability to work well with clients, patrons, employees, and exhibitors are imperative. Communication skills—both verbal and interpersonal—are highly valued as the cook interacts frequently with team members and supervisory staff to coordinate event preparation.

Additionally, the job requires the ability to work extended hours productively when necessary, which can be essential during large events or festivals. A fundamental requirement includes obtaining a Food Handler's card within 30 days of hire, assuring compliance with relevant health regulations. The position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions, though it requires prolonged periods of standing and occasional lifting within kitchen environments.

Candidates are expected to have at minimum a high school diploma or GED, accompanied by at least two years of relevant experience or specialized training in culinary or food service settings. This combination of education and hands-on experience will enable the cook to meet the demands of this varied and engaging role effectively.

Legends Global promotes diversity and inclusiveness and is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer. They encourage women, minorities, individuals with disabilities, and protected veterans to apply. This commitment reflects in their respectful workplace culture and their adherence to VEVRAA Federal Contractor guidelines.

Overall, this position offers an excellent opportunity for those passionate about culinary arts and hospitality to join a distinguished company dedicated to outstanding event experiences in a vibrant community hub. Interested applicants are encouraged to submit their most recent resume and may contact the company directly should they require reasonable accommodations during the application process.
