Job Description

Cape Fear Community College (CFCC), a respected educational institution in North Carolina, is dedicated to fostering growth, learning, and community engagement through diverse academic and extracurricular programs. CFCC supports a vibrant athletics department known as Sea Devil Athletics, which emphasizes both competitive sports and community involvement. The institution is committed to providing equal employment opportunities and maintaining a work environment free from discrimination, ensuring all employees are respected and supported regardless of their background or identity. CFCC is seeking a Coordinator of Athletic Event Management to join its athletics team, operating under the Department of Athletics and reporting directly to the Director of Athletics.

The Coordinator of Athletic Event Management plays a crucial dual-role within the athletics department. This position combines operational management of athletic events with strategic promotional efforts aimed at enhancing the visibility and attendance of Sea Devil Athletics events. The Coordinator is primarily responsible for managing all athletic event operations at CFCC, which includes establishing and maintaining a volunteer program that supports these events. This involves supervising game management personnel and volunteers, overseeing ticket and concession sales including VIP services, ensuring adequate financial controls and inventory management, and maintaining safe, clean athletic facilities that meet the needs of both athletes and spectators. Additionally, the Coordinator supports recruitment efforts by coordinating with local high schools and sports clubs to increase visibility for CFCC athletics.

Beyond logistical responsibilities, the role demands active engagement in athletic event promotions. The Coordinator fosters the Sea Devil Athletics brand to maximize attendance and fan engagement at all CFCC-sponsored athletic events. Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders—including college officials, government representatives, community groups, student-athletes, and the general public—are vital to success in this role. The Coordinator serves as the key front-of-the-house liaison among coaches, officials, volunteers, emergency services, and security personnel during athletic events to ensure smooth operations. The role also involves maintaining compliance with college and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) policies and regulations.

This full-time position requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed, reflecting the event-driven nature of the job. Candidates should bring leadership qualities, the capacity to act as a professional role model, and a commitment to upholding the philosophy and mission of Cape Fear Community College. While no prior experience is required, an Associate's Degree or equivalent experience is preferred. The job includes supervisory duties and offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to an active athletics program in an educational setting. This position represents a unique chance to develop skills in event management, public relations, and athletic administration while working in a supportive, community-focused college environment.
