Food Lion is a well-established grocery retailer that has been serving communities since 1957. With a workforce of 82,000 associates, Food Lion operates across 10 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states, providing a fresh, easy, and affordable shopping experience to more than 10 million customers weekly. As a prominent player in the retail grocery industry, Food Lion focuses on delivering high-quality products and exceptional service, emphasizing community involvement and customer satisfaction.
The Deli Bakery Department at Food Lion is a vital area dedicated to providing freshly prepared deli and bakery products to customers. This position centers on delivering quality customer service while adhering to company standards and industry best practices. Working in the Deli Bakery Department involves maintaining high standards of food safety, sanitation, and product presentation. Associates in this role are expected to actively engage with customers, ensuring each interaction is friendly, fast, and accurate to enhance the overall shopping experience.
This role demands a keen understanding of production standards, ingredient usage, and ordering procedures to maintain the department’s efficiency and minimize product shrinkage. The associate must be proficient in following technical manuals, processing recipes according to standards, and applying proper labeling and merchandising techniques. Compliance with Food Lion’s policies, local, state, and federal regulations is essential to maintain operational excellence and safety.
Additionally, the role requires a commitment to workplace safety, including the ability to identify and correct unsafe conditions and appropriately handle reporting of accidents. Dress code compliance and maintaining a neat, clean appearance in the Food Lion uniform, complete with an apron and name badge, is mandatory. Familiarity with company tools such as the average cost inventory system (ACIS) and computerized ordering (CAO) enhances the associate's ability to support departmental operations effectively.
Successful candidates will also complete computer-based training (CBT) and other training resources to build skills necessary for the role. The position requires a balance of physical activity including standing, lifting, bending, and working under varied temperature conditions. This is an ideal opportunity for someone seeking to grow within a well-respected retail grocery chain, who enjoys working in a fast-paced customer service environment, and is committed to food safety and quality standards.
