Job Description

Giant is a well-established grocery store chain primarily serving the Baltimore-Washington area with over 160 stores spread across D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware. Founded in the DMV area over 88 years ago, Giant has grown from a single store on Georgia Avenue to become the number one grocer in the region. The company is deeply rooted in the community, committed to partnering with local organizations to enrich the lives of neighbors and striving to be the most trusted and beloved local food retailer. Their focus not only lies in providing great food but also in delivering exceptional customer experiences and fostering a workplace culture that values growth, care, and a sense of belonging.

The role of Bakeoff Assistant is a key position at Giant, designed to support the Baker in the preparation and presentation of a diverse range of baked goods. This role requires someone passionate about baking and delivering high-quality products that are both visually appealing and delightful in taste. The Bakeoff Assistant will work closely with the Baker to ensure fresh daily inventory while strictly adhering to food safety and sanitation standards. Responsibilities include preparing products like breads, cakes, pastries, cookies, and specialty or seasonal items, following standardized recipes, and providing excellent customer service by assisting and taking orders from customers. This position is essential in maintaining the high standards Giant upholds for product quality, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence.

Working as a Bakeoff Assistant at Giant means being part of a company that prioritizes employee development, inclusivity, and a supportive culture. Giant values diversity and invests in its people through leadership development, continuous learning opportunities, and advancement prospects. The role offers a flexible retail schedule with shifts that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Compensation for this position ranges from $16.00 to $18.00 per hour, reflecting the company’s commitment to fairly rewarding its associates.

Giant’s employee benefits are comprehensive and tailored to support both the professional and personal growth of its staff. Benefits include tuition reimbursement, scholarship and grant programs, healthcare, life insurance, wellness initiatives, a 401k plan, paid time off, and access to financial services via the Market USA Credit Union. The culture fosters a sense of belonging with business resource groups, rewards and recognition programs, and community engagement opportunities. This is a role that offers not only a chance to contribute to quality food preparation but also to grow and thrive within a company that cares deeply about its people and community.
