The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) role at GDIT is a unique opportunity to work alongside federal civilian agencies, providing critical psychiatric and behavioral health services in high-intensity environments. This position focuses on comprehensive mental health assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and counseling aimed at fostering psychological readiness, resilience, and recovery for U.S. personnel and their families. The PMHNP will serve as an embedded behavioral health provider supporting clients operating under extreme operational stress, with an emphasis on brain health, preventive care, and managing both acute and chronic mental health conditions.

This role involves extensive clinical practice combined with interdisciplinary collaboration, education, and direct consultation to leadership on psychological trends affecting operational tempo and well-being. The ideal candidate will not only provide high-level nursing care but will also contribute to education and training activities, helping to elevate the knowledge and responsiveness of the entire healthcare team. Responsibilities include diagnosing and treating mental health conditions such as Post-Traumatic Stress, Traumatic Brain Injury, and chronic pain, and maintaining a strong understanding of military culture and the unique stressors faced by Special Operations Forces (SOF).

The position demands proficiency in technical skills, including the use of medical documentation systems and collaboration software, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with elite operators who may be skeptical of traditional psychological approaches. Candidates are expected to operate with the highest ethical standards and compliance with clinical practice guidelines, Nurse Practice Acts, and universal precautions. Physical requirements include the ability to function in austere environments with potential physical activities such as hiking uneven terrain and lifting up to 25 kilograms.

This contingent position is anticipated to start in 2027 and will be based at various CONUS sites, providing a diverse and challenging work environment. The role offers a competitive salary range between $111,155 and $150,385, with compensation dependent on experience, location, and contractual needs.
