Job Description
United States Army Garrison Hawaii (USAG Hawaii) is a prominent military installation that supports the diverse needs of military personnel, their families, and civilian employees stationed in Hawaii. Known for its comprehensive support services, including military housing, community activities, and religious support, USAG Hawaii fosters a strong sense of community and resilience within its bases, which include AMR, MPC, MPC-A, Fort DeRussy Chapel, and Helemano Military Reservation. The Garrison plays a crucial role in ensuring mission readiness and quality of life for soldiers and their families through various programs and resources.
The Protestant Administrative Religious Education Coordinator (PAREC) position is a vital role within the USAG Hawaii Religious Support Office, tasked with coordinating and managing Protestant Religious Education programs across multiple military locations. This role involves planning, scheduling, and executing both regular and seasonal religious education activities that cater to the spiritual growth and development of the Protestant community within the garrison. The PAREC works closely with the Garrison Chaplain, Director of Religious Education, the Contracting Officer Representative (COR), and Protestant ministry leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality religious education and community outreach programs.
The role requires a mix of administrative expertise and a deep understanding of Protestant Christian Religious Education. The PAREC is responsible for maintaining the religious education calendar, tracking attendance, preparing reports, and managing program documentation. Coordination of significant events such as Vacation Bible School, holiday programs, community events, and resiliency activities falls under this position. Additionally, the coordinator supports deployment readiness events and manages background checks to ensure compliance with military standards.
Given the dynamic nature of military life and the spiritual needs of a diverse community, the PAREC must demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications—Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint—is essential for preparing curriculum materials, flyers, publicity, and maintaining accurate records. The position operates on a variable schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate the full scope of religious education activities.
This role requires professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and a respectful approach to supporting a pluralistic military religious environment. Candidates with experience in military chapel programs and working in diverse religious settings are preferred, but formal training in Protestant Christian Religious Education or a related field is required to ensure theological and educational soundness. Overall, the PAREC is instrumental in nurturing faith development, fostering community engagement, and supporting the spiritual resilience of Protestant service members and their families in USAG Hawaii.
