Job Description
US Foods is a leading foodservice distributor in the United States, recognized for its commitment to providing innovative solutions and quality products to the foodservice industry. The company partners with a broad portfolio of customers including restaurants, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and hospitality businesses, ensuring that they receive timely and reliable delivery of foodservice products. With a vast network and a focus on customer satisfaction, US Foods supports the diverse needs of the food industry through dedicated service, advanced technology, and a highly skilled workforce.
This role, titled Non CDL Driver I, is an essential delivery position within US Foods responsible for operating company vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) limited to 14,900 pounds. The focus of this position is to deliver foodservice products safely and efficiently to a variety of customer locations, maintaining a high standard of customer service throughout the delivery process. Although commercial driving experience is preferred, it is not mandatory which makes the opportunity accessible to a wider range of applicants. The driver must meet the medical requirements set by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and adhere to all safety and regulatory guidelines. This position offers a stable work schedule from Tuesday through Sunday, with overtime compensation available. The expected base salary for this role is $26.53 per hour, reflecting competitive pay in the delivery and logistics sector.
The Non CDL Driver I will be responsible not only for the safe operation of the delivery vehicle but also for the physical tasks associated with loading, unloading, and handling food products. These tasks require frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds, as well as the capability to use hand trucks and maneuver products in challenging settings such as stairs. The driver is also charged with accurate documentation of deliveries using company-required technology like handheld scanners, managing return products, processing paperwork for damaged goods, and collecting payments when necessary.
A significant element of this role is customer interaction. The driver serves as a direct representative of US Foods and must communicate effectively with customers, internal transportation associates, and supervisors to resolve any delivery issues promptly. Monitoring vehicle refrigeration units is critical to ensure food safety during transport. Driver responsibilities include conducting thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, managing vehicle fluids, tire conditions, and fuel levels to ensure operational readiness.
US Foods places a strong emphasis on safety and professionalism, expecting drivers to comply with all DOT standards and maintain a clean driving record. The physical demands of the job are considerable, encompassing extensive standing, walking, bending, twisting, and lifting in various weather conditions. This position requires flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and overtime to meet customer demands.
Overall, the Non CDL Driver I position at US Foods provides a rewarding opportunity for individuals who enjoy active work, customer service, and reliable employment within a respected industry leader. The role offers competitive wages, potential for overtime, and a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, retirement benefits, paid time off, disability coverage, employee stock purchase plans, and life insurance, supporting employee well-being and financial security.
