Job Description

Wayne State University is a prominent public research university located in Detroit, Michigan. Known for its comprehensive educational offerings and commitment to community engagement, Wayne State plays a critical role in fostering academic excellence across a diverse range of disciplines. The university’s mission emphasizes innovation, inclusivity, and preparing students for success in a competitive global environment. With a deep connection to Detroit’s vibrant urban landscape, Wayne State integrates research, teaching, and community service to address real-world challenges and advance knowledge in multiple fields.

The Department of Oncology and Teacher Education Division at Wayne State University is currently seeking an experienced Project Coordinator to contribute significantly to the implementation and management of its specialized programs. This exciting opportunity is based at the Detroit campus and is designed to bridge two important program areas within the university. The Project Coordinator will spend approximately 80% of their time supporting the Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination (CRTEC) program and 20% supporting the College of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) grant initiatives.

The primary responsibilities will involve close collaboration with faculty leadership, trainees, and administrative partners to ensure the seamless coordination of diverse activities, projects, and events. The Project Coordinator will take a leadership role in managing project timelines, tracking deliverables, and ensuring timely completion of all reporting and program requirements. This role is critical for maintaining high standards of organization and accountability within these research and education programs, ensuring that funding-related activities, evaluation tasks, and participant logistics operate efficiently and effectively.

Key duties include the coordination of day-to-day operations for oncology-related cancer research training and education programs as well as educational grant support in special education. This includes managing participant logistics such as recruitment communications, onboarding, orientation, required paperwork, stipend coordination, and support with conference registrations and travel arrangements. The role also involves maintaining essential project documentation, managing shared digital resources, databases, and tracking systems that are crucial for program implementation and compliance with federal reporting requirements, including those mandated by the U.S. Department of Education.

In addition, the Project Coordinator will support faculty and postdoctoral researchers by assisting with funding-related activities such as distributing information about funding opportunities, maintaining grant-writing resources, coordinating internal proposal reviews, and managing internal pilot funding processes. This may involve application coordination, review facilitation, award tracking, and reporting responsibilities.

Beyond these administrative and operational responsibilities, the position entails scheduling and organizing various meetings, educational sessions, doctoral seminars, advisory board meetings, and other program activities. The coordinator will prepare necessary materials, provide logistical support for trainings and events, and ensure that program continuity is maintained. General administrative duties like copying, scanning, and other related tasks will also be part of the role. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a highly organized, proactive individual to contribute to meaningful educational and research programs at a respected institution committed to impacting cancer research and special education positively.
