The company prides itself on its innovative approach to aviation and its dedication to its employees, fostering a dynamic work environment where diversity and inclusion are key pillars of its culture. American Airlines supports the growth and development of its employees at every stage of their careers and offers a comprehensive range of benefits designed to promote physical, mental, and financial well-being from day one of employment. Working at American Airlines means joining a family that values creativity, collaboration, and excellence while empowering team members to reach their full potential.
The role of a Software Developer within American Airlines Flight Training is a unique opportunity to contribute to the modernization and enhancement of the critical systems that support pilot training programs. This position involves deploying and supporting the corporate Learning Management System (LMS) used by over 15,000 student pilots, ensuring the smooth operation of corporate and regulatory compliance training courses. The developer will work closely with leaders, business analysts, project managers, and technical teams to design, implement, and maintain state-of-the-art computer-based training software and distance learning initiatives. This dynamic role requires a hands-on approach encompassing programming, quality assurance, user communication, and system maintenance. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in modernizing the existing code base through technologies like Microsoft Azure and introducing new systems such as the SuccessFactors LMS and mobile applications.
This position is integral to shaping the future of flight training by supporting a variety of enterprise services and applications using advanced software development methodologies including domain-driven design and test-driven development. The developer will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing web and desktop applications, managing databases like SQL and MS Access, and automating tasks through VBA macros. In addition to technical expertise, the role demands proactive collaboration and adherence to American Airlines' cybersecurity policies and coding standards. This is not just an IT department role but also one that requires working directly within the business unit to ensure alignment with operational goals.
American Airlines values a deep curiosity for both technical and human elements within flight training and encourages its developers to innovate and improve all processes and systems related to training delivery. Candidates for this role should be passionate about problem-solving and skilled in full software development life cycle management. They should be strategic thinkers who enjoy seeing projects through from conception to completion, maintaining high standards for quality, security, and customer satisfaction.
The company offers a comprehensive employment package with competitive pay, robust health benefits including medical, dental, prescription, and vision coverage, wellness programs, and a 401(k) plan with employer contributions. Employees benefit from travel perks enabling personal and family travel to numerous destinations worldwide. Additional benefits include employee assistance programs, pet insurance, and discount opportunities on travel and leisure services. American Airlines fosters an inclusive work environment with over 20 Employee Business Resource Groups, promoting diversity and a culture where all team members can be their authentic selves and thrive. This role offers an outstanding career path for an experienced software professional eager to make a significant impact in a globally recognized company and airline training organization.
