Job Requirements
- Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate
- Must possess a valid typing certificate (two years old or less) demonstrating at least 40 net words per minute
- Willingness to work part-time up to 1000 hours per fiscal year
- Ability to lift materials up to 30 pounds
- Frequent operation of data entry devices involving repetitive motion
- Occasional standing, bending or squatting
- Skill in taking dictation at 80 words per minute and transcribing accurately
- Some positions may require a valid California driver’s license
- Availability for evening and weekend work
- Enrollment in the City’s Office Support Certificate Program with completion required for advancement
- Ability to interpret and apply city and departmental policies
- Strong basic office skills and public contact experience
- Experience with animals and animal adoption is highly desired
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Operate personal computer and standard office equipment
- Receive and screen visitors and telephone calls, take messages, handle or refer callers and visitors
- Provide information to customers using judgment and interpret city or department policies
- Type correspondence, reports, forms and specialized documents from drafts or instructions
- Enter and retrieve data using computer programs
- Initiate routine correspondence for management signature
- Review materials for accuracy, completeness and proper format
- Handle routine office tasks such as mail processing, ordering supplies, arranging repairs, and maintaining reference materials
- Schedule meetings, prepare agendas, notify participants, reserve facilities, and arrange travel
- Research, compile, and update reports including arithmetic calculations
- Establish and maintain records, process forms and compile information
- May assign and review work on projects and instruct staff in procedures
- Other duties as assigned
