Job Description

The City of El Monte is a vibrant community-focused local government dedicated to providing high-quality recreational programs, services, and activities for its residents. Committed to enhancing the quality of life for people of all ages, the city offers a diverse range of recreational opportunities through its well-maintained facilities and dedicated staff. Operating numerous community centers, parks, and event spaces, the City of El Monte prioritizes safety, accessibility, and inclusivity in all its recreational offerings. Recognizing the importance of active community engagement and wellness, the city continuously develops programs that foster social interaction, physical activity, and lifelong learning. In addition to leisure and fitness programs, the city hosts various community events and special activities that bring residents together in a positive and supportive environment. The city’s recreation division also manages rented facilities, ensuring that events run smoothly and that spaces are safe and welcoming for all participants. Employment with the City of El Monte offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the community through public service in an encouraging and team-oriented atmosphere. This position is typically full-time or part-time with a varied schedule that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, reflective of the city’s commitment to accessibility and community needs.

The role of Recreation Specialist Assistant under general supervision plays a crucial part in the day-to-day operations and administrative support of the City of El Monte’s recreational programs. This position involves overseeing specific program activities or assigned sites, assisting staff and volunteers, and ensuring smooth operation of community programs. The Recreation Specialist Assistant is responsible for client registration processes, maintaining accurate participation records, and collecting fees in accordance with city policies. A pivotal aspect of the role includes managing facilities used for community events and rented activities, involving opening, closing, securing, and preparing venues to meet the specific needs of patrons. The incumbent monitors facility use, responds to maintenance concerns by coordinating with maintenance teams, and upholds standards for cleanliness and safety. Additionally, the Recreation Specialist Assistant supports the planning and execution of city-wide events, setting up and breaking down equipment and ensuring all amenities are ready for use. Strong communication skills are essential for providing excellent customer service to patrons, residents, vendors, and city staff. The position requires the ability to manage multiple tasks independently, organize work priorities effectively, and adhere to established policies and procedures. Given the physical demands of the job, including lifting and manual setup duties, candidates should be prepared for active roles in both indoor and outdoor environments, ranging from office duties to hands-on event support. This dynamic role offers a unique blend of customer service, administrative responsibility, and community engagement, serving as an integral part of the city’s recreational services team. This position offers the chance to contribute to a positive community impact while gaining valuable experience in public administration and program management. The City of El Monte values dedication, teamwork, and a proactive approach to service, making this an attractive opportunity for individuals passionate about recreation, public service, and community development.
