Job Description
Sing for Hope is a renowned non-profit organization based in New York City that uses the transformative power of the arts to foster hope, healing, and human connection on a global scale. Founded in response to the events of 9/11, Sing for Hope has grown into a vibrant community-driven organization that partners with hundreds of community entities and mobilizes thousands of artists to create meaningful artistic experiences. One of its hallmark initiatives is the Sing for Hope Pianos program, which produces artist-designed pianos placed in public spaces worldwide to be enjoyed by all, while simultaneously supporting under-resourced schools by transporting these pianos to hospitals, schools, and community centers. Sing for Hope has provided more pianos to underserved public schools than any other organization globally, making a significant impact in arts accessibility and education.
The role of Director of Sing for Hope Pianos is a pivotal leadership position responsible for managing the operational, logistical, and community engagement aspects of this iconic program. This New York City-based role requires a dynamic individual who excels at the confluence of project management, operations, and mission-driven community work. Although there is some flexibility for remote work, the Director must be present regularly at the Piano Studio in lower Manhattan and participate actively in meetings, events, site visits, installations, and partner collaborations throughout the year.
This position demands a proactive, highly organized, and adaptable leader with a clear passion for advancing Sing for Hope's mission. The Director oversees the smooth execution of the program including installation of pianos, activations, launches, and special events, as well as manages program inventory, coordinates artists and vendors, manages budgets and timelines, and supervises staff and volunteers. The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on, comfortable managing complex details while building and nurturing community and vendor relationships. They will thrive in an entrepreneurial environment that encourages innovation and flexibility, balancing structured processes with the agility to respond to new challenges and opportunities.
Sing for Hope prides itself on its small but high-performing team culture that values professionalism, accountability, and initiative. The successful Director will embody these values and consistently work to leave the program stronger than they found it. They will be deeply committed to high standards of operational excellence, collaboration, and delivering exceptional work that advances the organization’s visibility and impact. This role offers a competitive salary range of $100,000 to $110,000 annually along with comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision insurance, and opportunities for professional growth. Joining Sing for Hope means becoming part of a passionate and diverse team dedicated to harnessing the arts to create a better world through innovative public programs like Sing for Hope Pianos.
