Job Description

Fresh Air Camps is a long-standing organization that has enriched the lives of over 1.8 million children since 1877, providing transformative summer programs and year-round leadership opportunities. Located in the picturesque Hudson Valley, NY, Fresh Air Camps operates six residential camps offering campers a natural and safe environment to explore, learn, and grow. Each camp tailors its programming to different age groups and interests, ranging from outdoor adventure to arts and sciences, ensuring a diverse and enriching experience for campers and staff alike. The camps focus on the holistic development of children, fostering skills in leadership, creativity, physical activity, and community building within a supportive and nurturing atmosphere. Known for its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, Fresh Air Camps welcome candidates from all backgrounds to join their team, embodying the organization's dedication to an inclusive and supportive culture.

The Camp Program Director role at Fresh Air Camps is a pivotal leadership position responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of camper programs in one of the six camps. This full-time position runs from June 11 to August 15, 2026, and requires the director to live onsite, with semi-private adult housing and all meals provided. Compensation ranges from $3,000 to $3,800 for the summer. Program Directors are entrusted with managing a team of 10 to 15 staff members, organizing camp activities, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality programming. Reporting directly to the Camp Director, they play a crucial role in maintaining the camp’s values and standards while fostering an environment where campers can thrive.

Fresh Air Camps offers multiple Program Director positions, each tailored to specific program areas. The Teen Program Director leads the Teen Leadership Program for campers aged 13 to 17, focusing on personal development and future planning by coordinating schedules and program events. The Director of Specialists manages specialist staff and camp schedules, ensuring that experiential education is integrated throughout the camper’s stay. The CIT (Counselor-in-Training) Director mentors the next generation of camp leaders, overseeing training, activities, and communications. All roles emphasize leadership, teamwork, and a commitment to the safety and development of campers.

Program Directors must demonstrate strong supervisory skills, previous residential camp experience, and a willingness to commit to living onsite for the summer duration. The organization also upholds stringent health and safety standards, requiring all staff to meet vaccination requirements according to federal, state, and local laws, ensuring a safe environment for all camp participants. Fresh Air Camps values leadership professionals who are passionate about youth development and eager to contribute to an exciting and meaningful summer experience. This position is ideal for experienced camp staff looking to advance their leadership skills and make a significant impact on the camp community.
