Job Description
RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program) is a national initiative operating under Americorps Seniors dedicated to mobilizing seniors into volunteer roles that enrich communities. The program specifically targets engaging retired and senior populations to contribute their skills, knowledge, and time to nonprofit organizations, schools, healthcare facilities, and other community-based entities. RSVP operates with the mission of addressing pressing community needs through volunteerism, focusing on measurable community impact outcomes. This program is active across multiple regions, including Montgomery and Greene Counties, where it plays a vital role in fostering volunteer engagement and community support.
The Program Coordinator position for Montgomery and Greene Counties is a full-time role requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week, offering an annual salary of $37,000. The coordinator acts as a pivotal figure within the RSVP program, overseeing all volunteer activities, ensuring compliance with program goals, and maintaining strong relationships with local organizations that serve as volunteer stations. This leadership role requires a blend of organizational skills, community outreach, and administrative capabilities.
As the Program Coordinator, the individual will be responsible for recruiting, enrolling, and training volunteers, guaranteeing that all legal and procedural documentation is complete. The role involves regular volunteer engagement activities, including recruitment events and celebrations of volunteer milestones such as birthdays and other significant life events. Furthermore, the coordinator co-manages the annual Americorps Senior recognition event, a highlight for honoring volunteer contributions.
The coordinator will establish and monitor volunteer stations, ensuring adherence to grant performance metrics, facilitating timely reporting, and troubleshooting any issues related to the RSVP program. Maintaining accurate and updated records of volunteers, stations, and program activities is essential, as is submitting timely reports to the central office. The position also entails managing an activity calendar through Outlook and overseeing local Advisory Council members’ recruitment and engagement.
An essential aspect of the role is to promote national service initiatives, encouraging member participation in federally recognized National Days of Service events such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Patriot Day. The coordinator also pursues new funding opportunities to sustain program operations, keeps budget documentation current, and handles petty cash and check requests. Beyond administrative duties, the coordinator serves as an ambassador for RSVP, building relationships with community leaders and organizations to enhance visibility and support for senior volunteerism.
Compliance with agency policies and federal, state, and local regulations is mandatory, as is commitment to maintaining a safe working environment. The role may require travel throughout the counties and statewide and offers opportunities to provide backup coverage in other counties as needed, ensuring program continuity. Overall, this position is crucial for advancing RSVP’s mission by energizing senior volunteers and supporting vital community services.
