Job Description

The University of New Mexico's College of Population Health (COPH) is a leading academic institution dedicated to advancing health equity and improving the wellbeing of diverse populations across New Mexico and beyond. Situated within the Health Sciences Center, COPH serves as a vital hub for education, research, and community engagement, focusing on addressing health disparities among Native, Latino/Hispanic, African American, and other underserved communities. Through strong partnerships with government agencies, non-profit organizations, healthcare providers, and businesses, the college fosters collaborative efforts to promote public health, wellness, and disease prevention tailored to vulnerable populations. COPH offers a variety of degree programs focused on population health, including the Bachelor of Science in Population Health (BSPH), the Master of Public Health (MPH), and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Health Equity Sciences. These programs embody an interdisciplinary approach by bridging biological sciences, social sciences, policy, and health systems, providing students with a comprehensive education grounded in real-world public health challenges. The undergraduate BSPH program, which is UNM's newest major, emphasizes prevention and wellness by exploring complex health determinants through a trans-disciplinary lens. The MPH program is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health and equips students with knowledge and practical experience in research, policy, and community interventions. The PhD program further cultivates scholars through rigorous competency training, preparing graduates to assume leadership roles in academic, governmental, non-governmental, and healthcare settings focused on health equity.

The Program Coordinator position at COPH supports the college's mission by providing essential administrative and educational coordination across the undergraduate and graduate programs. This full-time staff role offers an hourly wage ranging from $19.56 to $26.58 and is classified as non-exempt under UNM's staffing system. The coordinator plays a pivotal part in the day-to-day operations of the education programs, ensuring smooth administration and effective communication between students, faculty, and staff. Responsibilities include managing scheduling for face-to-face and online courses, assisting with student admissions processes, supporting event planning such as orientations and convocations, and preparing educational materials like course catalogs, marketing content, and student handbooks. Additionally, the coordinator serves as the central contact point for routine educational activities, offering organizational support and assistance with meetings and other projects. This position is eligible for a remote work arrangement, including hybrid options with partial work-from-home flexibility, enabling a modern and balanced work environment. The Program Coordinator must have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to exercise sound administrative judgment while engaging with a diverse academic community. The role requires collaboration with multiple stakeholders to maintain high-quality service delivery in the COPH's educational programs, contributing to the growth and success of public health education at UNM. The coordinator is also subject to background checks and compliance with university and NCAA regulations as applicable, ensuring a secure and professional environment within the Health Sciences Center.
