The role of Program Coordinator at United Activities Unlimited is a vital part-time position with an estimated commitment of 15-20 hours per week, requiring in-person work at the Staten Island location. This hourly non-exempt role offers a pay range of $18 to $24 per hour, reflecting city, state, and federal contractual requirements alongside budgetary considerations. Reporting directly to the Program Director, Assistant Program Director, and Director of Community Initiatives, the Program Coordinator contributes significantly to the successful delivery and coordination of programming aimed at supporting the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development of participants.

The Program Coordinator's responsibilities include overseeing and organizing activities, providing direct support to management staff, and ensuring quality programming that meets the needs of children and youth served by UAU. A critical part of the position involves supervising both staff and participants to maintain safety and appropriate participation ratios, managing participant records and data entry as required by the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), and assisting with participant logistics such as arrival and dismissal. The Program Coordinator also serves as a communicator with participants and their families, reinforcing age-appropriate behaviors, and employing positive behavior management strategies. Additionally, the role requires the Program Coordinator to lead or assist outreach efforts, creating a safe, engaging, and productive learning environment for youth, and adapting as necessary to meet programmatic goals. The position demands participation in ongoing professional development and adherence to all safety protocols stipulated by regulatory bodies and the agency. In absence of higher-level management, the Program Coordinator will assume those responsibilities, showcasing leadership and initiative. The physical aspects of the role require the ability to stand, walk, sit, run, or jog as dictated by program activities, working both indoors and outdoors, presenting a dynamic and engaging working environment. Overall, the Program Coordinator plays an essential role in supporting UAU's mission to empower individuals and strengthen communities through dedicated service and quality programming.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1+ year experience working with children and at risk youth ages 13 to 18 years of age preferred
  • Valid drivers license
  • Ability to work 15-20 hours per week in person
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain participant files and records
  • Ability to lead and assist in outreach programs
  • Must pass background and reference checks as required

Job Qualifications

  • Associates degree preferred high school diploma or GED required
  • Matriculated college student or better from an accredited university or college preferred
  • 1+ year experience working with children and at risk youth ages 13 to 18 years of age preferred
  • Must have a valid drivers license
  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based perspective
  • Must be culturally competent ability to understand be sensitive to the needs of communicate with and effectively interact with people across cultures at risk youth and a variety of age ranges
  • Must pass reference checks and background as designated by DOH DYCD and UAU
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem solving and mathematical skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and complete work independently
  • Willing to take initiative and be flexible when needed
  • Excels working in a collaborative environment to achieve target objects and outcomes

Job Duties

  • Provide supervision to both staff and participants to ensure safety and ratio protocols are meet
  • Maintain participant files and records and assist with data entry as directed and required per DYCD
  • Maintain accurate attendance records on a daily basis as directed and required per DYCD
  • Assist with participant arrival and dismissal as needed
  • Communicate with participants and families as required
  • Model enforce teach and develop age appropriate social physical and emotional behaviors
  • Lead and or assist in development and implementation of outreach and deliverable programs to engage potential participants and families within the community
  • Create and facilitate a safe fun and visually appealing productive learning environment for youth
  • Employ positive behavior management strategies for disruptive and negative behaviors
  • Demonstrate positive leadership and act as a positive role model to participants
  • Participate in ongoing professional development
  • Perform set up and clean up duties every day in alignment with Department of Health regulations and UAU policies
  • Abide by all safety protocols as outlined by the Department of Health OCFS DYCD and UAU
  • Assume the responsibilities of the Program Director and or Assistant Program Director in their absence
  • Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned
