Job Description
Kamehameha Schools Kapalama Campus is a prestigious educational institution dedicated to the empowerment and enrichment of Native Hawaiian students through culturally grounded education and holistic support. Established with a mission to foster the academic, cultural, and personal growth of its students, Kamehameha Schools is deeply committed to serving the Native Hawaiian community by nurturing student success in a supportive and engaging learning environment. The Kapalama Campus, one of the primary campuses of Kamehameha Schools, is renowned for its strong residential life program that provides students with a safe, supportive home away from home, helping to develop leadership skills and promote cultural values.
We are currently seeking a dedicated Program Assistant to join our Residential Life team on a full-time, hourly basis for an 11-month work year. This position plays a vital role in creating, coordinating, and implementing programs and activities that foster student safety, well-being, and engagement. The Program Assistant will work closely with students aged 7-12 grades, supporting their care and promoting meaningful learning experiences rooted in the cultural values of the E Ola program. This role requires flexibility, good organizational skills, and the ability to work varied shifts including mid-day, evenings, and weekends to best meet the needs of the student body and the program’s goals.
As an integral member of the Residential Life team, the Program Assistant will be responsible for aiding in the implementation of engagement activities within dormitories and program-wide. This includes preparing instructional materials, assisting with event logistics, substituting for Residential Life Advisors during emergencies, and transporting students for on and off-campus activities using approved school vehicles. The successful candidate will be a positive role model and guide for students, promoting appropriate interpersonal relationships and supporting the development of leadership skills through involvement with the Residential Life student council. Additionally, the Program Assistant must maintain situational awareness to ensure student safety during all engagement activities, a critical responsibility in the residential life setting.
Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in managing and supervising students in diverse environments, possess strong communication skills, and be knowledgeable of first aid and CPR standards as well as minibus operation requirements. A high school diploma or GED is required, along with a minimum of three years related experience. The position favors those with an understanding of Hawaiian culture-based education and experience with student engagement strategies. This role demands a balance of administrative and hands-on duties to support the dynamic and active environment of residential student life.
The position offers an hourly pay range of $27.19 to $36.49, depending on experience and qualifications. Kamehameha Schools is committed to fostering employee well-being through a comprehensive Total Rewards Program that includes competitive compensation, health and wellness benefits, and ample opportunities for professional growth. The successful applicant will become part of a community dedicated to strengthening and serving Native Hawaiian students and their educational journey.
