Friends-SF pairs each child in its program with a salaried, professional mentor known as a Friend who provides consistent support from kindergarten through high school graduation. This unique, trauma-informed mentoring model helps promote physical and emotional well-being while developing essential life and academic skills. The Professional Mentor position is full-time, with a starting salary from $66,000 per year and a hiring bonus of $750 awarded after 90 days of employment contingent on good standing. In the role of Professional Mentor, you will forge intensive, trusting relationships with eight to ten youth in classroom and community settings. You will set positive expectations, nurture and build on individual strengths and talents, and support both youth and their families by connecting them to appropriate services and resources. You will model responsible behavior and spend approximately four hours per week with each child. Reporting directly to a Program Manager, you will attend all required meetings, meet reporting deadlines, and actively contribute to the organization's culture of mutual accountability, inclusiveness, and respect.

Additionally, the role demands a willingness to propose and implement new ideas and participate in ongoing marketing and fundraising efforts. This includes sharing mentoring stories, participating in photo and video shoots, and speaking at fundraising events. The position requires a flexible Tuesday-Saturday work schedule from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and involves daily driving with youth using either a personal or company-leased vehicle.
