The Production Supervisor role at Seneca Foods is a vital leadership position focused on managing and mentoring production team members on the production floor. This position demands strong leadership skills and the ability to provide clear guidance, instruction, and motivation to meet rigorous production schedules in a fast-paced environment. The Production Supervisor will spend approximately 80 percent of their time actively engaged within the production areas, ensuring all activities meet strict quality standards and operate efficiently within established parameters.

The key responsibilities involve creating, planning, and executing work schedules while assisting in production sequencing to meet daily and weekly goals. The Production Supervisor oversees the overall performance of the department, analyzes production data, and implements process improvements. This role is instrumental in maintaining worker safety by monitoring hazardous conditions and enforcing compliance with safety regulations. Collaboration with the Food Safety and Quality teams is critical to achieve Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and meet legislative and training objectives.

As a pivotal figure on the production floor, the supervisor also manages materials and supplies procurement to maintain smooth production operations. They leverage technology such as the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to coordinate equipment repairs and maintenance. The position requires conducting regular audits, investigating incidents, and fostering a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement through employee training and active participation in staff meetings.

This role requires a proactive approach, a capacity for problem-solving under pressure, and excellent communication skills to effectively lead and communicate with employees and management alike. Fluency in both English and Spanish enhances communication across diverse teams. Candidates must demonstrate a solid understanding of Microsoft Office tools to manage reports and documentation efficiently.

Job Qualifications

  • college graduate in food technology or comparable work experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in food manufacturing

Job Duties

  • create, plan, and execute work schedules and assignments
  • assist manager in production sequence planning to meet daily production schedules and provide superior customer service
  • complete and analyze weekly departmental performance reports and shift recap reports
  • manage, document, and implement new and improved processes and train staff for effective execution
  • ensure team members take scheduled breaks and lunches
  • review employee performance issues promptly and effectively with documentation
  • ensure worker safety through monitoring of employee practices, identifying safety hazards of equipment and environments, and training
  • ensure the overall quality of the products by evaluating materials and equipment according to specifications
  • work with Food Safety and Quality to meet Good Manufacturing, Legislative, and Training objectives
  • request materials and supplies needed to maintain production process run efficiently and create Maintenance work orders through the CMMS program for equipment parts or repair services
  • participate in Operations staff meetings and perform weekly tailgate meetings
  • train new employees and coach existing employees
  • investigate and generate reports for all incidents
  • participate and suggest cost-saving ideas and initiatives
  • perform various audits in a timely manner as programmed
  • other duties assigned
