Job Description
Microchip Technology Inc. is a globally recognized leader in the design and manufacturing of semiconductor products that power a wide range of applications and industries around the world. With over 17,000 employees, Microchip is a multi-billion dollar public company renowned for its commitment to innovation, quality, and community. The organization’s culture emphasizes trust, empowerment, respect, diversity, and open communication, fostering an environment where individuals are encouraged to grow personally and professionally. Microchip is proud of its vision, mission, and guiding values that shape every decision and action at the company, creating a workplace that has earned numerous awards for diversity and excellence.
This particular opportunity is for the role of Production Specialist in the Simsbury team. The Production Specialist plays a critical part in Microchip’s manufacturing operations by assembling electronic modules, which involves the delicate task of hand soldering surface mount electronic components and Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) devices onto printed circuit boards (PCBs). This role requires strict adherence to industry-standard protocols such as MIL-STD 883 and J-STD, and Microchip’s own internal processes, ensuring the highest quality and reliability of the products produced. Additionally, the Production Specialist is tasked with fabricating wiring harnesses, cable and connector assemblies, and mechanically assembling final products while strictly following Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protocols to protect sensitive electronic components.
A key responsibility of this role includes performing quality inspections of both purchased and manufactured components and assemblies before and after assembly tasks, ensuring that each product meets Microchip’s rigorous standards. This position also involves accurately documenting inspection results in the company’s Work Order Event Database and promptly reporting any discrepancies or issues to management, which supports continuous improvement and operational excellence.
The Production Specialist will actively participate in Lean Manufacturing initiatives, contributing to the company’s efforts to optimize processes, reduce waste, and enhance efficiency. This role demands a detail-oriented mindset, the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and strong communication skills in English. Technological proficiency with tools such as microscopes, Microsoft Windows applications, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Microsoft Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Outlook is essential.
Microchip Technology Inc. offers a dynamic and supportive work environment where employees are empowered to take ownership of their roles and career development. The company’s leadership development programs are nationally recognized and provide robust opportunities for growth and learning. The Production Specialist role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about electronics manufacturing and desire a stable, long-term career within a globally successful and innovative organization. Candidates will benefit from a stimulating workplace that values collaboration, innovation, and dedication to quality.
Microchip’s Simsbury facility operates under strict U.S. export control regulations, requiring candidates to be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or otherwise protected individuals. This reflects the company’s commitment to compliance and responsible business practices. Physical demands of the role include the ability to lift, push, pull up to 25 pounds, carry up to 15 pounds, stand approximately 60% of the time, and walk about 40%, along with the ability to perform repeated stooping, reaching, handling, hearing, talking, and seeing tasks. The role permits 0 to 25% travel, allowing for some mobility and engagement with different parts of the business.
Microchip Technology Inc. is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusion. All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, color, religion, national origin, disability, protected Veteran status, age, or any other protected characteristic. This commitment creates an environment where every employee can feel valued and empowered to contribute to the company’s continued success.
