Recognized as one of the largest suppliers of safety products and ammonia products in the U.S., Airgas integrates a diverse workforce of approximately 18,000 associates committed to fostering a culture of safety, innovation, sustainability, and customer success. As a subsidiary of Air Liquide, a global leader with presence in 60 countries and nearly 66,500 employees, Airgas benefits from a strong international framework dedicated to excellence in gases, technologies, and services for healthcare and industry sectors.

The company is proud of its inclusive and diverse work environment which embraces unique perspectives and backgrounds to enhance innovation and team strength. Airgas values respect, honor, and diversity in its workforce and encourages every employee to contribute to a supportive atmosphere that propels the company forward. The organization sincerely believes in the mutual growth of its associates by providing opportunities to voice ideas, take initiative, and engage in meaningful decision-making processes.

Airgas is looking to fill a full-time Production Operator and Backup Driver position in Overland Park, KS. This role is perfect for professionals who enjoy the balance of technical production work coupled with the dynamic nature of local driving assignments. The operator primarily focuses on plant and high-pressure cylinder production activities, ensuring safety and quality standards are rigorously maintained. These production responsibilities represent about 80% of the job and require precision in filling industrial, medical, and mixed gas cylinders subject to strict temperature and pressure controls. Adherence to DOT, OSHA, and corporate SAFECOR safety policies is critical, and consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory in handling gases. Monitoring quality through careful inspection of gauges, scales, and equipment is part of maintaining the high standards Airgas customers expect. In addition, managing warehouse flow, including loading and unloading trucks safely with forklifts and organizing inventory, ensures efficient operations.

The remaining 20% of the role involves serving as a backup Class A CDL driver, covering local and regional delivery routes as needed. This part of the job offers the advantage of being home daily in the majority of cases and assists in maintaining smooth logistics operations. Drivers transport compressed and liquid gas cylinders along with hard goods, representing Airgas in a professional manner at customer sites, managing gas levels, exchanging cylinders, and resolving service inquiries. The job requires accurate digital record-keeping and proficient use of on-board computer systems to manage shipping documents and electronic logs.

Working hours are consistent, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend on-call support. Pay starts at $29 per hour based on experience, with eligibility for quarterly bonuses, merit increases, and referral bonuses. Comprehensive family benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and disability coverage start after only 30 days of employment, underscoring the company’s commitment to employee welfare. Additional benefits include paid parental leave, 401(k) with company match, tuition assistance, paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave.

This position is well-suited to individuals who hold a valid Class A CDL, have at least two years of recent driving experience, and possess active tanker, hazmat, and airbrake endorsements or the ability to obtain them. A clean driving record is essential. The role demands physical stamina and strength, with frequent bending, lifting, and the ability to work in varied weather conditions, often handling loads ranging from 25 to over 125 pounds. Technical skills include the ability to understand complex pressure and temperature charts, safety data sheets, and standard operating procedures. Flexibility and reliability are key attributes as the role requires switching seamlessly between warehouse production responsibilities and driving duties.

Overall, joining Airgas means becoming part of a respected industry leader committed to diversity, safety, operational excellence, and employee growth. The Production Operator and Backup Driver position offers a unique blend of hands-on production work and local driving, creating a dynamic career path with strong support and benefits in a stable, inclusive company environment.
