Job Description
Airgas, an Air Liquide company, is a leading U.S. supplier of industrial, medical, and specialty gases, along with a wide range of hardgoods and safety products. With approximately 18,000 associates, Airgas is renowned for fostering a culture rooted in safety, customer success, sustainability, and innovation. Headquartered in South Plainfield, NJ, the company operates a filling plant where industrial gases are prepared and distributed, serving a broad spectrum of industries. As a subsidiary of Air Liquide, a global leader present in 60 countries with around 66,500 employees, Airgas benefits from the scale and expertise of a global enterprise, while maintaining a strong commitment to local service and operational excellence.
The role of Production Associate (Cylinder Loader) at Airgas is crucial for the safe and efficient handling of high-pressure and liquid cylinders. This position, based at the South Plainfield plant, involves loading and unloading cylinders onto and off trucks in compliance with a wide range of regulatory standards, including federal and state regulations. The Cylinder Loader is expected to uphold stringent safety protocols and company procedures to ensure safe handling of hazardous materials. The role requires a blend of physical capability, technical awareness, and attention to detail, as well as a strong commitment to following safety standards such as OSHA guidelines and Airgas’s own safety programs.
Working on the 2nd shift from 1pm to 9:30pm, Monday through Friday, the Production Associate will be responsible for inspecting cylinders before filling, recognizing hazards related to different gases, and safely maneuvering equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks. This hands-on role also includes examining cylinders for defects, segregating out-of-test or defective cylinders, removing old labels, cleaning equipment, and supporting the overall productivity and safety of the operation.
At Airgas, employees are valued not only for their work but for their diverse backgrounds and perspectives, fostering an inclusive workplace culture. The company offers competitive pay at $25 per hour and a comprehensive benefits package that supports employees' overall well-being, including medical, dental, vision, life, AD&D, and disability insurance. Additional benefits include a 14-week paid childbirth benefit, a 401(k) retirement plan with employer match, tuition assistance, paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave, which begin accruing after just 30 days of employment.
Airgas encourages candidates with mechanical aptitude and a high school diploma or GED to apply, with preference given to those with experience in ERP systems like SAP and proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Suite. This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in a safety-conscious environment and are looking for a stable career in a company committed to innovation and employee growth. The Production Associate position offers not only competitive compensation but also a supportive, career-oriented environment where individual contributions make a measurable impact on company success and customer satisfaction.
