These positions are non-exempt with an hourly pay range between $17.90 and $33.22, which may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations. The role focuses primarily on preparation and maintenance of a variety of food items, working on weekends with scheduled shifts either from 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM or 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM. This position is union-affiliated under the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) union.\n\nFood Service Aides at UMass Memorial Health play an essential role in supporting the nutritional needs of patients by preparing cold and limited hot foods according to strict protocols and safety standards. Duties include chopping, slicing, mixing, seasoning, portioning, wrapping, and labeling food products such as vegetables, fruits, salads, sandwiches, and desserts. The role also involves maintaining a clean and safe work area, operating kitchen equipment responsibly, and adhering to sanitation guidelines. Employees assist with the preparation of supplements and nourishment items, operate slicing machines, and contribute to assembling cold plates and garnishing foods for attractive presentation. Maintaining accurate quality control records related to production, temperature readings, and dating is a vital component of the job responsibilities.\n\nThis role requires collaborative communication with supervisors to ensure the smooth coordination of food preparation tasks during night and weekend shifts. Candidates must be able to follow oral and written instructions carefully, use adjustable measuring instruments proficiently, and uphold sanitation and safety standards to provide patients with meals that meet hospital care requirements. Prior food service or food production experience is preferred but not mandatory. Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

- Over 3 and up to 6 months training preferred
- Food production or food service experience preferred

Job Duties
- Prepares cold foods and limited hot foods as directed
- Assists in the preparation of supplements and other nourishments
- Prepares custard, diet custard, jello, and other similar products
- Washes and prepares vegetables
- Slices meats and cheeses using electric slicing machine
- Uses knives and electric blenders and choppers
- Prepares composition salads and assembles cold plates including salads and sandwiches
- Maintains work area cleanliness and sanitation standards
- Operates and maintains food preparation equipment according to standards
- Communicates and coordinates with supervisor regarding duties and supply needs
- Maintains quality control charts for production, dating, temperature readings
- Participates in other food service functions as directed
- Bakes items as designated
- May work on various trayline positions
- Serves hot and cold food according to standard procedures
