TAPCO is currently seeking motivated Production Assemblers to join their team. This role is essential in ensuring that customers receive high-quality finished products accurately reflecting sales orders. As a Production Assembler, you will be working within a cell-based manufacturing environment using Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles to assemble, program, and test various traffic safety products. You will be responsible for assembling custom orders according to strict engineered-to-order standards, programming and testing finished products, packing products securely in wooden or cardboard containers, and participating in changeovers between different parts. The position requires collaboration with team members, engineers, and management to support continuous improvement efforts. You will receive hands-on training in Lean and 5S methodologies and are expected to conduct regular quality and 5S audits, contribute ideas for process improvement, perform minor maintenance tasks, and address routine troubleshooting issues.

This is a full-time, first-shift position working Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM. Compensation is competitive and based on experience within the production field, reflecting the value TAPCO places on skills and contributions. The role demands strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, including knowledge of electronic principles such as OMS law, AC/DC circuits, voltage and amperage, and solar controls. The successful candidate should also be capable of reading and interpreting mechanical and electrical schematics and work orders, performing basic math calculations, and using computers for tasks including Microsoft Office and Outlook. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 35 pounds and stand for the majority of the workday.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 - 2 years prior relevant experience within the industry
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs and stand for 75% of the day
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions and schematics
  • Basic math skills
  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Mechanical ability
  • Willingness to learn Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles
  • Ability to work within a team/cell-based environment

Job Qualifications

  • 1 - 2 years prior relevant experience within the industry
  • Prior experience assembling panels, wire harnesses, and/or other electrical control
  • Prior experience working in a team/cell-based environment
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic and mechanical work instructions, drawings, and schematics
  • Strong verbal, listening, and written communication skills
  • Able to analyze and solve routine problems with a variety of concrete variables
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook
  • Knowledge of electronics including OMS law, AC/DC, voltage/amps, solar controls
  • Mechanical ability
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

Job Duties

  • Ensure customers receive finished products per sales orders
  • Assemble, program, and test BTS Blinker signs, blinker paddles, RRFB, Beacons, ETO Blinker Signs, and DirecTimes
  • Operate within a cell work environment practicing standardized work, Lean Manufacturing, and 5S principles
  • Pack products into wooden or cardboard containers with protective padding
  • Participate in cell changeovers from part to part
  • Perform minor maintenance
  • Solve routine problems
  • Conduct regular 5S audits and quality audits and checks
  • Share and support ideas for improvement in group meetings
  • Participate in group and individual improvement activities with team members, engineering, and management
  • Help implement and support improvement ideas
  • Communicate with the Cell/Team Leader, Planner, and Management as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned
