Job Description
MSI is a well-established leader in the flooring and hardscaping industry, founded in 1975 and headquartered in Orange, California. The company has grown steadily to include over 50 cutting-edge showroom and distribution centers throughout the United States and Canada. MSI provides an extensive range of products including natural stone pavers, porcelain pavers, turf solutions, ledger panels, stacked stone, loose veneer, and various setting materials imported from over 36 countries across six continents. Known for its commitment to quality and innovation, MSI has received many prestigious awards such as the Top 5 fastest growing companies by OC Business Journal, Home Depot's Supplier Diversity Award, and recognition as the number one flooring distributor multiple years in a row by Floor Covering Weekly. MSI’s working culture promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion, providing a supportive environment where employees can thrive free from discrimination and with reasonable accommodations for all.
The Landscaping/Hardscape Product Promoter role at MSI is a key position designed to drive awareness, merchandising, and adoption of the company’s hardscape products including natural stone, porcelain pavers, Evergrass turf, ledger panels, and related installation materials among contractors, dealers, builders, and outdoor living professionals. This full-time role operates primarily Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with two Saturdays a month working from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM, reflecting the hands-on nature of the position and customer engagement requirements.
The Product Promoter collaborates closely with outside sales teams to build and strengthen relationships with key customers, engaging them through product presentations, training sessions, showroom tours, and onsite jobsite demonstrations. The role demands a thorough technical understanding of the products and their applications, including base preparation, drainage, safety considerations such as DCOF and ZeroSlip, and coping detail applications. This expertise is essential for ensuring that product specifications are correctly incorporated in projects and installations meet quality standards.
Core responsibilities also include managing and auditing marketing and merchandising displays such as planograms, paver sample boards, veneer towers, and turf panels to ensure accurate product representation. The promoter provides ongoing technical support and installation guidance aligned with industry standards, referencing authoritative guidelines like those from the Concrete Masonry Handlers Association (CMHA) and the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI).
This role requires effective coordination with internal teams such as sales, operations, and logistics to support the entire sales process, from providing quotes and processing orders to overseeing deliveries and post-installation follow-ups. Maintaining an up-to-date and organized pipeline within the company’s CRM system is critical to track opportunities and customer interactions.
The Product Promoter will also represent MSI at trade shows and industry events to enhance brand presence and gather market intelligence, keeping abreast of the latest industry trends, competitive offerings, and building code regulations related to veneer and hardscape applications. The role involves content development responsibilities such as creating and updating FAQs, specification sheets, installation tip sheets, and showroom displays to support the sales and marketing teams.
MSI looks for candidates who bring a minimum of three years’ experience in building materials, hardscapes or landscapes, dealer merchandising, or contractor-focused sales, ideally with a bachelor’s degree in construction management, landscape architecture, architecture, marketing, or a related field. Candidates should possess excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills alongside proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM software. Familiarity with design or layout tools is advantageous, as is an understanding of the contractor customer base to effectively target key contacts.
Physically, the role involves regular use of hands for handling tools and materials, walking, standing, occasional sitting, and the ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Close vision capabilities are also required.
MSI offers a comprehensive benefits package including referral, holiday, and annual bonuses, annual pay increases, paid time off, medical, dental, and vision insurance, company-paid short-term and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, tuition reimbursement, 401(k) plans with company matching, charitable donation matching programs, and unique educational support such as free tutoring for employees’ children across grades K-12, including SAT and ACT test preparation. MSI is committed to fostering a workplace environment that values diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity for all its team members.
