In addition, the manager supervises the operational processes such as stock ordering, receiving, storage, and display of produce items to maintain optimum inventory levels and product quality.
An essential component of the role involves security awareness and responding effectively to customer complaints to uphold customer satisfaction. The manager will also manage scheduling for both full-time and part-time employees to optimize productivity and efficiency. Maintaining cleanliness, safety, and a professional appearance within the department is paramount, including oversight of salad bar operations and waste management.
The manager functions as a vital communication conduit between the produce team and store leadership, regularly analyzing department performance metrics and adjusting operational strategies for enhanced results. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous supervisory or management experience preferred
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Basic computer literacy
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
- Physical ability to perform duties including lifting and standing for long periods

Job Qualifications
- Willing to be flexible and work mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights as work demands
- Willing and available to work weekends and holidays as needed
- Understanding of all key components of department operations including managing people, merchandising, computer-assisted ordering, inventory management, shrink control, customer services, labor scheduling, and expense control
- Working knowledge of produce and preparation and general knowledge of store operations
- Adept at communication with employees, customers, and supervision
- Constantly alert with ability to react quickly to changing priorities and demands
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Ability to make intelligent decisions quickly
- Able to tactfully and calmly handle stressful situations
- Possess abilities and skills for effective production, merchandising and customer services related to sale of merchandise
- Produce work experience or similar experience in food preparation is desired
- Past work record reflecting dependability and integrity is desired
Job Duties
- Develop maximum customer relations by produce department personnel through personal example of friendliness and courtesy and implementation of all company policies
- Be alert and assist in store security
- Be perceptive and handle customer complaints
- Make recommendations regarding the hiring, firing, disciplining, demoting, transferring and evaluating all produce department personnel
- Proper indoctrination of all department employees
- Ensure employees can read scales and prices correctly
- Provide adequate knowledge and training of price marking
- Emphasize customer courtesy and productivity
- Supervise all aspects of salad bar operations
- Discuss with store manager the most efficient and practical working schedules of both full and part-time employees for maximum efficiency
- Maintain personable, clean and neat appearance of departmental people, ensuring proper uniforms and identification
- Maintain good communication with all store personnel
- Plan, organize, direct, and control the activities of the produce department
- Take charge of the store operation in the absence of the store manager within scope of authority
- Direct the receiving, storing, pricing, and merchandising of all produce products
- Assure adequate stock and supplies by proper ordering to maintain optimum inventory levels
- Maintain and submit required records and reports and use them effectively
- Maintain effective and good housekeeping in all areas including cleaning and defrosting cases, cleaning floors, keeping cooler and preparation areas orderly, and maintaining proper waste disposal
- Keep adequate supplies on hand such as bags, pricing and making equipment
- Analyze all aspects of produce department such as space allocation, design, display, price marking, rotation, inventories, personnel and periodically make changes or recommendations to store manager
- Promote, communicate and implement company initiatives and process improvements
- Be prompt, tactful, calm, courteous, and professional in all interactions
- Demonstrate aptitude to manage people and organize workloads
- Perform all duties assigned by the store manager or supervisor
- Work cooperatively in high-paced and sometimes stressful environment
- Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner
