The produce team member role at Whole Foods Market is a critical position focused on supporting the availability and presentation of fresh produce. This role involves receiving and preparing product deliveries, maintaining the produce floor and displays in an attractive and sanitary condition, and directly assisting customers in finding and purchasing produce items. The role requires adhering closely to the store's standards and operating procedures, which include food safety regulations and company policies. Duties include breaking down and stocking deliveries, rotating products to ensure freshness by removing outdated items, and organizing seasonal and volume produce for appealing displays. Produce team members must also engage proactively with customers, using suggestive selling techniques to maximize sales opportunities, and respond courteously and efficiently to inquiries. The position demands a strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a team environment. Produce team members are expected to maintain cleanliness and safety of their workspace, use various tools and equipment safely including knives and pallet jacks, and perform opening, mid-shift, and closing duties as assigned. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand or walk for extended periods, and work in varying temperature and environmental conditions. Job Requirements

  • No prior retail experience required
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand or walk for 6-8 hours in an 8-hour work day
  • Ability to perform motions including bending, twisting, squatting and reaching
  • Ability to work in wet and dry conditions
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Ability to use tools and equipment including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
  • May require use of ladders

Job Duties

  • Ensures a fresh and appealing display by keeping cases and shelves clean and well stocked by front-facing, checking codes, rotating and removing out-of-date products
  • Assists Team Leader in organizing and displaying volume and seasonal items
  • Monitors and prevents spoilage and communicates waste to buyers, Team Leaders, and shift supervisor
  • Completes spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweep worksheets as required
  • Assists with periodic inventory checks
  • Arrives to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed and ready to work
  • Works all scheduled shifts and attends required trainings and meetings
  • Provides excellent customer service, addresses needs of customers in a timely and effective manner and models suggestive selling techniques
  • Answers phones and pages promptly and courteously
  • Maximizes sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product
  • Follows and complies with established procedures including weights and measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices
  • Maintains a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment
  • Maintains equipment in accordance with WFM cleanliness and safety standards
  • Performs opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned
  • Ensures accuracy of signs and pricing
  • Immediately reports safety hazards and violations
  • Performs other duties as assigned by store, regional, or national leadership
