The role available is a leadership position assisting the Team Leader in managing daily store operations. This includes driving profitability, expense control, merchandising, buying, labor management, compliance with regulatory standards, and completing special projects as assigned. The position requires leading, developing, and mentoring team members to ensure a high-performing, motivated workforce that delivers exceptional service. Candidates will be responsible for upholding Whole Foods Market's values, maintaining a positive store environment, and promoting various company programs and initiatives.
This role supports the Team Leader by helping achieve sales, purchasing, and labor targets, analyzing performance data, and managing vendor relationships. It involves setting and maintaining high standards in store layout and product presentation, resolving team conflicts, and stepping in as the department leader when the Team Leader is absent. A key aspect of this position includes fostering a collaborative team culture that encourages mutual respect and outstanding morale, ensuring the store is responsive to customer needs and queries, and maintaining compliance with food safety and health regulations.
This position requires at least 18 months of retail team member experience and a minimum of 6 months in a supervisory role. Operatives must be capable of performing various physical tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds, standing or walking for extended periods, and handling store equipment safely. The work schedule may include nights, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the dynamic nature of retail operations. Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office and operations-related applications, along with advanced product knowledge and strong leadership abilities, are essential to succeed.

Job Requirements
- must be able to lift 50 pounds
- standing or walking 6 to 8 hours in an 8-hour work day
- hand use including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
- work requires bending, twisting, squatting and reaching
- exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
- exposure to temperatures less than 32 degrees Fahrenheit freezing, 32 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit refrigerators, greater than 90 degrees Fahrenheit
- ability to work in a wet and cold environment
- ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
- ability to use tools and equipment including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
Job Qualifications
- 18 plus months retail Team Member experience
- 6 plus months supervisory experience
- excellent interpersonal, motivational, team building, and customer relationship skills
- demonstrated decision-making ability, leadership skills, and ability to prioritize and delegate
- proficiency with email, Microsoft Office, and operations-related applications
- advanced knowledge of regulatory and safety policies and procedures

Job Duties
- Develops and maintains creative store layout and product merchandising
- works with Team Leader to achieve sales, purchasing, and labor targets
- assists Team Leader in analysis of sales, reports and labor
- demonstrates advanced product knowledge and develops or maintains awareness of new products
- maintains good vendor relationships, develops new vendor relations, and ensures all paperwork is properly submitted for vendor processing
- works with Team Leader to resolve team concerns or issues
- functions as point person and departmental person in charge in absence of Team Leader
- sets and achieves the highest standards of retail execution
- fosters and encourages a positive environment of outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and exceptional morale
- maintains awareness of customer flows and needs and directs Team Members as necessary to satisfy and delight customers
- responds promptly to customer needs and questions
