The role of Assistant Team Leader at Whole Foods Market is a critical position within the retail operations. It encompasses a broad range of responsibilities supporting the Team Leader in managing daily store activities such as profitability enhancement, expense management, buying, merchandising, labor scheduling, regulatory compliance, and executing special projects. This leadership position plays an essential part in fostering a positive work environment where teamwork, mutual respect, and high morale are prioritized. In this role, the Assistant Team Leader is involved in developing creative store layouts and product merchandising strategies to enhance the shopping experience and drive sales. They work closely with the Team Leader to monitor sales performance, analyze reports, manage vendor relationships, and maintain all necessary documentation related to vendor transactions. Serving as the point person in the absence of the Team Leader, the Assistant Team Leader takes on a department leadership role, setting and achieving high standards of retail execution. Additionally, the role demands proactive customer engagement by observing customer flow and needs and directing team members to address these effectively.
Leadership and development of team members are core to this role. The Assistant Team Leader is responsible for selecting, training, mentoring, motivating, and counseling team members to sustain a high-performance team and reduce turnover. They conduct thorough performance evaluations and consistently communicate the company’s vision and goals. The position requires a high-energy professional with a strong affinity for the products and company philosophy, a growth mindset, excellent interpersonal and motivational skills, advanced product knowledge, and familiarity with health and safety regulations. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and operations-related applications is also expected.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 18+ months retail Team Member experience
- 6+ months supervisory experience
- ability to lift 50 pounds
- ability to stand/walk 6-8 hours per day
- ability to perform bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching motions
- exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
- ability to work in wet and cold environments
- ability to work flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
- ability to use tools and heavy machinery
Job Qualifications
- 18+ months retail Team Member experience
- 6+ months supervisory experience
- advanced product knowledge
- proficiency with email, Microsoft Office, and operations-related applications

Job Duties
- Develops and maintains creative store layout and product merchandising
