Job Description

The golf course pro-shop plays a vital role in the overall operation and guest experience at a golf course, serving as the primary point of contact for golfers and visitors. This position is focused on the day-to-day fast-paced operations of the golf pro-shop. The candidate will be responsible for managing merchandise, assisting with outing coordination, and supporting outside operations when necessary. Working at the pro-shop requires a strong foundation in customer service, as the role is directly engaged with the public, answering inquiries about course information, events, and programs. The individual must be comfortable multitasking and able to thrive in a hectic environment that often involves simultaneous administrative and guest-related duties.

The role involves operating computer systems, POS systems, telephones, and other office equipment efficiently to facilitate smooth daily operations. Duties include checking in golfers, collecting fees, booking tee times and lessons, and ensuring that all course rules and procedures are followed courteously and professionally. The position requires balancing responsibilities that range from managing inventory and merchandising to assisting with the training of new staff members. The successful candidate must also be able to handle cash registers, reconcile monies collected, prepare bank deposits, and occasionally act as the Manager on Duty in the absence of senior management.

Flexibility is a must, as the position requires availability during days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Tasks extend beyond administrative duties to occasionally include rangers duties such as monitoring course play, litter clean-up, and golf cart maintenance, ensuring the golf course remains a pristine and welcoming environment. Job Requirements

  • must be proficient with computers and able to use ms office applications google chrome as well as telephones and other office equipment
  • must be able to operate pos system and other related computer programs in an efficient manner to ensure quick customer transactions
  • general knowledge of golf course maintenance and operations
  • ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates departmental officials and the general public both in person and over the phone
  • ability to operate a golf cart and driving range picker unit and utility vehicles
  • ability to see small items on a computer and distance acuity to monitor pro-shop operate a golf cart or utility vehicle
  • strong public and employee relations skills and ability to maintain a positive friendly and professional environment at all times
  • availability to work at least one weekend day per week and some holidays

Job Qualifications

  • high school graduate or equivalent
  • knowledge of golf and golf related terminology
  • two years working full time in a customer service oriented environment
  • experience within golf operations strongly preferred

Job Duties

  • provide course information to the public including events programs and course conditions
  • operate a computer telephone and other office equipment
  • perform custodial duties and maintain the pro-shop in a neat and orderly fashion
  • check in golfers and collect appropriate fees using a computerized POS system
  • book tee times and lessons both in person and over the phone
  • ensure golf course rules regulations and procedures are followed courteously and professionally
  • collect fees and balance cash register at the end of the day reconciling monies collected and complete bank deposits
  • travel to the bank for change
  • act as the manager on duty in absence of the golf manager and operations supervisor
  • place orders and follow up with all hole in one plaques
  • assist with merchandising and inventory control including quarterly inventory
  • assist with coordination of outings
  • assist in training of new employees
  • coordinate individual and group bookings with partner hotels when applicable
  • take registration for golf lessons and clinics and communicate information to the public and pros
  • occasionally ranger the golf course to ensure proper play and perform litter clean up and empty trash containers
  • occasionally pick driving range and wash range balls
  • ensure orderly flow of players on the golf course by introducing and pairing players for maximum course utilization
  • occasionally greet golfers and assist with golf bags at staging area or bag drop
  • assist on occasion in maintaining cleaning and staging carts in a professional manner with scorecard and pencil
  • occasionally perform custodial duties and golf course maintenance work if temporary staff shortage
  • perform additional duties as assigned
