Job Description
DigiStream Investigations is a fast-growing, national private investigation firm that has established a solid reputation for delivering high-quality investigative services across the United States. Specializing in covert surveillance and evidence collection, DigiStream Investigations is dedicated to supporting legal, insurance, and corporate clients by providing crucial evidence that can impact the outcome of various cases. The company is headquartered with a strong presence in the greater Chicago region, where it continues to expand its team of skilled professionals. DigiStream offers a dynamic work environment that combines autonomy, adventure, and professional purpose, making it an ideal employer for individuals seeking a challenging yet rewarding career in investigative services.
This opportunity is for the role of Surveillance Investigator, a unique and exciting position that goes beyond the confines of a typical desk job. As a Surveillance Investigator for DigiStream, you will be entrusted with the responsibility of conducting covert surveillance activities that require a high level of discretion, keen observation skills, and a proactive approach. This role is suited for someone who thrives on adventure and curiosity, enjoys problem-solving in real-world situations, and has the drive to collect accurate and admissible evidence to support client cases.
Surveillance Investigators at DigiStream are provided with all necessary equipment, including a company-provided surveillance vehicle (models such as Toyota Sienna or Honda Odyssey), a gas card, video cameras, laptops, tripods, and maintenance fuel cards. The role demands extensive travel within and outside the Chicago area, with an average commitment of 10-15 days per month spent traveling out of state or town, granting the candidate exposure to diverse environments and investigative challenges. This travel-heavy aspect of the job offers a level of excitement and variety that is uncommon in many professions.
A typical day involves monitoring and following subjects discreetly, capturing video evidence of daily activities in various settings like grocery stores, sports events, or any location relevant to the case. Surveillance Investigators also engage in careful pre-surveillance planning, crafting strategies based on case details and observational tactics. Detailed report writing and evidence submission are critical components of the role, requiring strong communication skills and attention to detail. Furthermore, the position offers the chance for advancement through DigiStream's Surveillance Investigator Promotion Track, coupled with professional, hands-on training developed over more than two decades.
Working at DigiStream also means joining a team-oriented environment where camaraderie is fostered through quarterly team-building events. The skills developed in this position open doors to related careers in law enforcement, federal agencies such as the FBI and ATF, legal professions, corporate security, and investigative journalism. The initial compensation package includes a competitive salary range of $40,000 to $45,000 per year, reflecting paid commute time and extensive travel, with entry-level starting pay at $18 per hour for the first 90 days. Employee benefits are comprehensive, including health, dental, vision, and life insurance, as well as a 401(k) plan with up to a 4% company match. The work schedule requires a 50-hour workweek on average, with availability needed on weekends, holidays, and early mornings, emphasizing the commitment and dedication this career demands. The role is full-time, and applicants must reside in the greater Chicago area with a valid driver's record and background clearance. DigiStream also supports new hires by covering the PI licensure cost and guiding them through the licensing process.
If you are seeking a career filled with adventure, impact, and professional growth in a supportive environment, DigiStream Investigations offers an unmatched pathway to join a respected national private investigation firm where no two days are the same.
