Job Description
DigiStream Investigations is a fast-growing national private investigation firm that operates across the United States, offering high-quality investigative services to a wide range of clients. Headquartered with the mission to provide concrete and reliable evidence to support legal and insurance cases, DigiStream has earned a strong reputation for professionalism and excellence. As a leader in the investigative services industry, DigiStream combines state-of-the-art technology with experienced investigative personnel to deliver results that can make a real difference in the outcome of critical cases. The company is committed to fostering a collaborative, growth-oriented work environment and offers its employees comprehensive training programs and career advancement opportunities. Employment with DigiStream is full-time and comes with competitive compensation and robust benefits designed to support employees’ personal and professional growth.
The Surveillance Investigator role at DigiStream Investigations offers a unique career path for those with an adventurous spirit and a strong desire to make impactful contributions through covert surveillance work. Unlike typical desk jobs, this position involves dynamic day-to-day activities, including traveling, on-the-ground investigation, and direct engagement with investigative assignments. This role is specifically designed for individuals who thrive in autonomous environments and enjoy the challenge of following and documenting subjects to obtain crucial evidence. Team members receive company-provided vehicles, equipment such as video cameras, laptops, and tripods, as well as access to a maintenance and fuel card to support their investigative work.
Surveillance Investigators at DigiStream will gain hands-on experience in covert investigative techniques, video documentation, and strategic planning of surveillance operations. The position affords significant travel opportunities, averaging 10 to 15 days monthly away from the home area, which adds an element of excitement and varied work environments. Daily responsibilities include developing pre-surveillance strategies, conducting video observation in multiple public settings, and maintaining clear communication with team leaders to coordinate tactics and ensure successful evidence gathering.
The role also offers a clear promotional path through the company's Surveillance Investigator Promotion Track, encouraging skill development and career progression within the investigative, security, and law enforcement fields. The skills acquired here can serve as a foundation for future roles in federal agencies such as the FBI, ATF, US Border Patrol, state crime labs, legal professions, security sectors, and investigative journalism.
Candidates must be highly reliable, flexible with working hours—including early mornings, weekends, and holidays—and willing to dedicate significant weekly hours to meet the demands of this field. Living in the greater Chicago area is a requirement, as is maintaining a clean driving record and passing background and DMV checks. DigiStream supports new investigators by covering the costs and providing guidance for obtaining professional private investigator licensure. This role offers new investigators a rare chance to start at an entry-level pay of $18 per hour during the first 90 days, with full-time staff earning between $40,000 and $45,000 annually, inclusive of paid driving time and travel reimbursement.
