Job Description

This opportunity is with a private family seeking an experienced, polished, and creative Full-Time Private Chef to join their established culinary team located in Soho, New York City. The family is composed of five members who prioritize beautiful, healthy, farm-to-table cuisine along with elegant presentation and refined plating techniques. Supported by a team of two rotating chefs, this position offers a unique and balanced schedule that fosters creativity while upholding exceptional culinary standards. The family values fresh, seasonal ingredients and health-conscious meals tailored to their specific dietary needs and preferences, ensuring a high-end dining experience at home.

The Full-Time Private Chef will work on a weekly rotation with the other chef, focusing on either lunch or dinner service exclusively during their week. This arrangement ensures variety, consistent quality, and the ability to maintain formal dining standards without overwhelming workload. The chef will be responsible for planning, preparing, and executing daily lunch or dinner for the principals, their children, and guests. Collaboration with the other chef is essential for menu planning, ingredient sourcing, and upholding the highest standards of nutrition, presentation, and quality.

The role demands expertise in a range of cuisine styles that emphasize healthy, farm-to-table meals with sophisticated plating and elegant presentation. The chef must accommodate specific dietary restrictions and prioritizes health-focused preferences for all family members. Managing ingredient procurement via excellent supplier relationships, grocery shopping, and meticulous kitchen inventory oversight is critical. The kitchen environment must remain organized and immaculate to support flawless execution.

Adaptability is key as the chef will handle casual family meals, formal entertaining and events, and child-friendly dining. Flexibility to work around young children and a small dog with discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality is mandatory. Time management and organizational skills will need to be exemplary, both independently and in collaboration with the rotating chef and household staff.

Additional responsibilities include occasional short stays and live-in support periods at the family's upstate New York residence as required. There is also about one month per year of international travel to Europe during the summer months, shared on rotation with the other chef, with full accommodations provided. Most meal preparation will take place in a local kitchen with final service and plating done at the family residence.

This position is Monday through Friday, offering a live-out arrangement based primarily in Soho, NYC, with weekends off approximately 80 percent of the time. Overall, around 80 percent of the role is live-out with 20 percent dedicated to travel and live-in stays. Private room accommodations are available during upstate stays, and overnight stays in New York City are not required for local candidates. Full accommodations are provided during European travel.

The salary range for this role is $175,000 annually, commensurate with experience, and includes full health benefits, a 401(k) plan, and a flexible schedule emphasizing a professional yet family-friendly approach. This rare position presents the chance to work in an effortlessly collaborative environment that values exceptional culinary creativity, discretion, and a genuine dedication to family-centered elevated home dining.
