Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is currently seeking a Principal or Senior Principal Systems Ground Test Engineer to join its Special Test Equipment team based in Palmdale, CA. This role emphasizes leadership in planning, scheduling, and executing complex test events for aerospace systems within a dynamic production environment. The successful candidate will lead teams of technicians and engineers, author necessary test documentation, and collaborate with responsible engineers and system test engineers to develop and execute effective test procedures.

Key responsibilities include attending important review meetings such as Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs), test planning sessions, and engineering briefs, serving as a subject matter expert throughout test executions. The role demands hands-on experience in analyzing test data, providing insights and recommendations for compliance strategies, and supporting troubleshooting and maintenance efforts. The Principal/Senior Principal Systems Ground Test Engineer will also be instrumental in supporting post-test data processing and ensuring that test objectives are met with precision.

This position requires the ability to work multiple shift schedules, including 4x10 and 3x10 shifts, accommodating both first and second shifts on weekdays and weekends. Candidates must hold an active US Government Secret clearance and have the capability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program clearances as necessary. The role offers competitive salary ranges, depending on experience and qualifications, with Principal level salaries from $103,600 to $155,400, and Senior Principal level salaries from $129,300 to $193,900. Additional compensation may include overtime, shift differentials, discretionary bonuses, and long-term incentives.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree and related professional or military experience
  • Experience in system test or aircraft test environment
  • Familiarity with engineering blueprints and data collection methods
  • Knowledge of special test equipment including oscilloscopes and network analyzers
  • Active US Government Secret clearance with a current background investigation
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program clearance
  • Ability to work multiple shifts including 4x10 and 3x10 schedules
  • U.S. Citizenship

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree and 5 years of related experience or Master of Science degree and 3 years of related experience or PhD and 0 years of related experience
  • Experience in system test and/or aircraft test/operational environment
  • Familiarity with blueprints, engineering guidance, data collection
  • Familiarity with special test equipment such as oscilloscopes and network analyzers
  • Active US Government Secret clearance with recent background check
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program clearance
  • Experience as a test engineer with planning, execution, and operations
  • Experience with test work sheets and documentation systems
  • Active program or Top-Secret clearance preferred

Job Duties

  • Plan, schedule and conduct test events
  • Lead team of technicians and engineers during test execution
  • Author work authorizations such as TWS and Prep Items for test and troubleshooting
  • Collaborate with responsible engineers and system test engineers to develop test procedures
  • Attend and lead meetings including TRRs, test planning, and engineering briefs

  • Provide first line engineering support for maintenance, repairs, and modifications to systems under test
