Job Description
RTX is the world's largest aerospace and defense company, employing approximately 185,000 talented individuals united by a shared purpose to make a difference by solving some of the most complex problems globally. With its three market-leading businesses, cutting-edge operations, and significant investments in research and development, RTX stands as a leader in advanced technologies that push the boundaries of science, connecting and protecting the world in unprecedented ways. This highly reputable company operates in a fast-paced, innovation-driven industry, providing an environment rich with opportunities for professional growth and the ability to contribute to critical national security missions.
The position available is for a Principal System Administrator based in Marlborough, MA, a role internally known as Principal Analyst within Information Workplace Services. This senior-level role involves collaborating on and supporting critical programs with classified information system capabilities, requiring expertise in secure, scalable, and cost-efficient IT environments. You will be at the forefront of developing, implementing, and maintaining systems across classified programs, ensuring these systems meet stringent security standards and operational requirements 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Success in this position means being able to expertly design and manage complex IT infrastructures that span Windows and Linux environments, virtualized servers, desktops, and operating systems using technologies such as VMware. Your responsibilities will include working closely with program teams and multifaceted engineering groups to define computing needs and provide end-to-end solutions addressing complex infrastructure challenges. Your role will require strong leadership in monitoring, optimizing, and troubleshooting to maintain system reliability, high performance, compliance with regulatory frameworks like DFARS, RMF, and NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and robust cybersecurity controls.
The position demands active and transferable U.S. government-issued Secret security clearance at the start date and requires U.S. citizenship due to the sensitivity of the information systems managed. The work environment is entirely onsite in a secure facility, with occasional travel within the region to support RTX locations in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire. The salary range for this role is between $86,800 and $165,200 per year, reflecting various levels of experience and responsibilities.
This role is ideal for experienced system administrators with a university degree or equivalent experience, who possess deep technical skills in Microsoft Windows 10/11, Windows Server 2019/2022, Linux servers, Active Directory, PowerShell scripting, and virtualization technologies. Candidates should also be prepared to obtain the necessary baseline security certification within six months of their start date. RTX offers a comprehensive benefits package that underlines their commitment to employee well-being, professional development, and work-life balance. If you are committed to advancing technology, security, and operational excellence in a career with a purpose, and if you meet the rigorous qualifications and requirements, this is a tremendous opportunity to make an impact at one of the most respected aerospace and defense organizations worldwide.
