With over a century of experience and expertise in engineering, Raytheon combines advanced technology with a deep-rooted commitment to mission success. The company’s culture emphasizes values such as safety, trust, respect, accountability, collaboration, and innovation, making it a dynamic environment for professionals across various disciplines. The position advertised is onsite in Tucson, Arizona at Raytheon's Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities (SE&TC) organization, specifically within the Effectors Center. This role focuses on supporting the Javelin program, a critical defense project developing advanced missile systems.

The Principal Systems Engineer role represents a significant leadership and technical opportunity in this setting. The successful candidate will oversee multi-disciplined engineering teams working to design, integrate, and qualify complex system solutions related to the Spiral 3 system iteration. Responsibilities include direct accountability for systems engineering, system integration and testing, and whole life engineering functions, contributing decisively to the hardware and software design teams’ successes. This role requires exceptional coordination and decision-making skills to manage peer leaders and diverse engineering disciplines, ensuring seamless integration across hardware and software elements of the project. Additionally, the Principal Systems Engineer acts as a liaison with the Javelin Joint Venture and Javelin Project Office leadership, driving alignment on program objectives and providing technical leadership that facilitates achievement of performance targets.

Collaboration is key, involving close interaction with various stakeholders, including the Office of the Chief Engineer and the Lead System Engineer, to uphold design requirements and performance expectations. The role also involves mentoring team members, hosting technical meetings and interchanges, prioritizing daily workflows, and risk management activities. It supports cost and schedule management efforts and contributes to the future program planning through Basis of Estimate (BOE) documentation. The candidate must be capable of embodying the spirit of the Doctrine of Completed Staff Work and fostering an agile, collaborative work environment.

This position demands a U.S. citizen eligible for and capable of obtaining and maintaining an active Department of Defense Secret clearance from day one. The salary range is competitive, from $107,500 to $204,500 annually, reflective of experience and qualifications. Raytheon offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, employee assistance programs, paid time off, parental leave, and more. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates. Periodic travel up to 10% may be required.
