The role available at RTX is for a Principal System Administrator within the Digital Technology (DT) organization. The DT team is pivotal in enabling seamless communication, collaboration, and innovation for RTX employees and customers globally by delivering leading-edge IT solutions. The Principal System Administrator, internally known as Principal Analyst, Infrastructure Workplace Services, will take a vital role in supporting fast-paced and critical classified programs that demand high security and reliable system capabilities. The successful candidate will develop, implement, and sustain secure, cost-effective IT environments for various classified projects. This involves collaborating closely with cross-functional program teams to accurately define computing requirements and engineer end-to-end infrastructure solutions to complex IT challenges. The role requires expertise in managing heterogeneous environments predominantly consisting of Microsoft Windows and Redhat Enterprise Linux systems. Key responsibilities include server and network administration, understanding server internals like DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, and replication methods, and applying troubleshooting skills to integrate hardware and software components effectively. The candidate will work alongside cybersecurity teams to uphold stringent security standards, ensure proper documentation, and provide training on advanced IT procedures. The position also demands the ability to obtain Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 8140 / 8570 certification within six months, with ongoing commitment to maintaining operational systems that run 24/7, occasionally requiring extended hours and up to 10 percent travel. Job Requirements
- U.S. citizenship required
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance required prior to start date
- Security clearance type: Secret - current
- Security clearance status: Active and existing clearance on day 1
- Ability to obtain DoDD 8140 / 8570 Certification within 6 months
- Ability to work onsite primarily
- Willingness to occasionally work overtime and up to 10% travel
- University degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience or advanced degree with minimum 3 years experience
Job Qualifications

- Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems
- Experience in one or more of the following: Active Directory, VMware, networking administration
- Preferred: Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 8140 / 8570 Certification (CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent and an Operating System Certification)
- In-depth experience with Windows Server
- Experience with data storage, NAS/SAN technologies and solutions
- Experience using VMware vCenter, vSphere, and ESX or other virtual computing methods
- Experience with security posturing using tools like SCAP, Nessus, Splunk, Symantec AV, and system hardening
Job Duties
- Provide IT systems administration in a heterogeneous Microsoft Windows and Redhat Enterprise Linux environment
- Understand and have knowledge of Windows Server internals or Linux fundamentals including DNS, DHCP, AD, and server replication methods
- Work as a team member in a fast-paced technological environment and use troubleshooting techniques to resolve technical problems of moderate to high scope and complexity including integration of hardware and operating systems
- Understand data RAID, data backup uses and technologies
- Install and configure software applications requested by end users
- Work with Cybersecurity professionals to maintain security requirements and provide documentation and training on advanced IT processes and procedures
- Obtain Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 8140 / 8570 Certification requirements (CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent certification) within 6 months of start date
- Ensure systems are operational 24x7 and occasionally work beyond standard work hours
- Travel up to 10%
