The City is currently seeking a Principal Development Concierge, a full-time position located in Camarillo, CA, with an annual salary range of $109,432.56 to $164,148.84. Reporting directly to the Director of Community Development, this role is essential in providing high-level concierge-style customer service, acting as the central point of contact for applicants, developers, businesses, and the public. The Principal Development Concierge is responsible for facilitating and coordinating complex development inquiries and resolving interdepartmental issues in an efficient and business-supportive manner. This position demands a collaborative and detail-oriented individual skilled in navigating city planning processes, building and fire codes, permits, and entitlements while maintaining compliance with municipal regulations.

Ideal candidates will have significant experience working within or closely with Community Development Departments, including roles in Building & Safety, Planning, Economic Development, or related private sector positions such as engineer, architect, planner, or expeditor. Additionally, knowledge of disciplines like right-of-way, engineering, and stormwater management enhances a candidate’s ability to deliver comprehensive project oversight and expedited permit processing. This role emphasizes clear communication and conflict resolution between stakeholders to reduce project timelines, advancing economic development priorities in the City.

The Principal Development Concierge performs independent administrative and professional duties that improve customer experience and transparency in City development processes. They serve as a liaison among developers, contractors, and multiple City Departments to ensure clear, efficient coordination and resolution of development-related issues. A Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, engineering, architecture, or a related field is preferred, alongside at least five years of progressive professional experience in planning, development services, or customer service program administration.

This role requires an individual with extensive knowledge of municipal planning and permitting, California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) compliance, zoning regulations, land and real estate economics, urban planning and economic development principles, as well as project management. Strong skills in verbal and written communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, and customer service are critical. The work environment is primarily office-based with occasional travel to various sites. Employees may be expected to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed. Job Requirements

  • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public administration, business administration, or related field
  • Five years of increasingly responsible professional experience in planning, development services, or customer service program administration
  • Knowledge of municipal planning and permitting processes
  • Knowledge of CEQA and relevant federal laws and regulations
  • Ability to coordinate across departments and resolve conflicts
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under multiple deadlines and handle multiple projects
  • Skill to interpret, analyze, and apply federal, state, and local laws including City codes
  • Physical ability to work in office setting with occasional site visits
  • Must be able to work extended hours including evenings and weekends

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, engineering, architecture, or related field preferred
  • Five years of professional experience in planning, development services, or customer service administration

Job Duties

  • Serve as a central point of contact for development applicants, developers, businesses, and the public
  • Coordinate and facilitate navigation of city planning, building, and fire code review processes
  • Assist applicants through entitlement and permit reviews by liaising with internal departments and external agencies
  • Provide high-level concierge customer service by resolving complex development inquiries and conflicts
