Serving at UCLA Health means joining a team of passionate professionals who are committed to providing compassionate and comprehensive care. This well-established institution offers a collaborative environment where employees contribute meaningfully to patient healing and the overall health of the population it serves. At UCLA Health, every role plays a vital part in ensuring patient safety, comfort, and support, which creates a rewarding workplace for ambitious professionals looking to grow and make a difference. The employment type for this position is hourly, with a competitive salary range of $25.33 to $34.07 per hour, reflecting the specialized nature of the duties and the level of responsibility expected.
The role of a transportation and valet associate at UCLA Health involves critical duties that ensure the efficient movement of patients, visitors, and staff throughout the extensive UCLA medical campus. Under the direction of a supervisor, the transport staff is responsible for safely operating shuttle buses to connect various key locations such as the Medical Center, Medical Office Building, Westwood Medical Center, Medical Plaza, Parking Lots, and Community Clinics. The position also requires valet services, which include parking vehicles for patients, visitors, and faculty members, maintaining order in parking areas by stack parking staff vehicles, and managing key storage securely.
This position demands a high level of customer service and professionalism, as employees interact directly with individuals entering and exiting the facility. Responsibilities include issuing valet ticket receipts, inspecting vehicles for prior damages, and documenting those details accurately. Timeliness is crucial in retrieving vehicles to ensure a smooth flow of traffic and expedite the transport of patients and visitors. Cash handling and receipt issuance are also part of the role, requiring honesty and attention to detail.
The transportation and valet associate must be physically able to perform duties that involve prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting, as well as lifting heavy objects up to 150 pounds using proper body mechanics. This physical demand aligns with the nature of the job, which includes moving patients safely and managing vehicle keys. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills to interact diplomatically and sensitively with patients, staff, and visitors, ensuring a positive and respectful environment at all times.
Attention to detail is essential, especially in understanding and complying with UCLA Health’s policies and procedures regarding patient transport and vehicle safety. The ability to communicate effectively using proper English grammar, both verbally and in writing, supports the clear exchange of information necessary for safe operations. Holding a valid California Class B Driver's License is mandatory, along with maintaining a driving record compliant with local policies and procedures. Enrollment in the California Employer Pull Notice Program may be required to monitor driving records regularly.
Overall, this role is vital for supporting UCLA Health’s mission to deliver outstanding healthcare services by ensuring that transportation and parking logistics are managed efficiently, safely, and professionally. Employees in this position contribute significantly to the seamless operation of the complex medical campus environment, directly impacting the experience and wellbeing of patients and visitors alike.
